Whilst there have been many space missions – the majority either under the auspices of the National Science and Aeronautics Administration (NASA), or the European Space Agency (ESA) or the Russian Aviation and Space Agency – famously including manned landings on the moon (NASA), the most successful mission of all time in terms of space travel must surely be the creation, construction and the successful continued existence and operation of the international Space Station (ISS). A key purpose of the ISS has been to evaluate the effects on humans of lengthy exposure to conditions in space – an essential step ...

In a class assignment, group-1 and group-4 participated in a negotiation for the sale of a Texoil service station. Group-1 was the Vice President (VP) of Operation representing Texoil in the ...
Although most my business associates had punched out, One of my colleague had to stay behind. The reason was to help in serving the customers since the station had already started flocking extra customers. I was an attendant at a Valero gas station, and I was not well versant how things went on their stores. In addition, I was slow with my services, which forced customers to wait for long due to my poor sales techniques. Most of the customers were restaurant owners, and many were unhappy with the way I conducted my services and used to be impatient ...
Just in time production systems are based upon the simple concept that excess work in progress is a waste of company resources. This is a part of a “Lean” manufacturing system. Toyota is one of the pioneers of this manufacturing style. It uses a “push” or a “pull” style assembly line and kanban cards to ensure that there are no excessive resources wasted on building inventory that is not needed. As with a classic assembly line, the product moves down the line and receives an additional part at each assembly node on the line. In either the push or ...

One particular instance in my wide experience working as a police officer under the NSW Police Station’s jurisdiction that I want to focus on in this reflection would be when I was assigned to take a statement from a female who was an alleged victim of violence and physical injury. To sum up the case, he was filing for a police report because her ex-boyfriend allegedly breached an apprehended violence order or AVO that that one of the regional courts in the country made against him (i.e. the ex-boyfriend). The AVO was breached because the ex-boyfriend kept on ...
Estimating Numbers of Gas Stations in the U.S.
Without access to any resources, I would (knowing the approximate population of my small town), count the number of gas stations there, divide the population figure by that number, so arriving at numbers of people per gas station. As the U.S. population is circa 300 million, I could then extrapolate to produce a nationwide estimate of gas station numbers. With access to databases etc, other useful information could be the numbers of vehicles registered, annual sales of fuel, numbers of gas stations owned by the major fuel companies, etc. Easiest would ...
The judges mainly rely on a various principles when interpreting the acts of parliament. These rules include:

The literal rule
It is the cardinal rule of construction (interpretation) of statutes. In this rule, words must be given their ordinary, literal, grammatical meaning. The literal rule is the first rule to be used in establishing the intention of the legislature.
In many cases, the courts are normally required to interpret the meaning of a given piece of legislation to enable them apply facts to the cases that come before the judges. As such, the courts have continually developed a wide range of rules of interpretation to assist them ...

As a branch of civil law called tort, a case may qualify to be regarded as negligence if an incident involves more than just careless ...

I.2 The cultivation analysis theory was developed by George Gerbener. This is a social theory that aims at the examination of long-term effects of television. According to Gerbener this theory is based on proposition that states that the more the time people spend on a television the more they are likely to be carried along to believe in the social message being portrayed in the television. Cultivation exposes people to misconception of the unreality in the world.
There are several elements that make this theory outstanding and reliable for significance in the media world. One of the elements that ...
The two science fiction short stories written by the prominent American writers Isaac Asimov and Avram Davidson are the examples of brilliancy in their genre. Both, “The Golem” written by Davidson in 1955 and “Reason” written by Asimov in 1941 share similar themes and details of the plot, although the settings and the development of the stories are very different. The stories gradually unfold the intricacies of the encounters of humans and intelligent robots, whose views on the world are very different. The meeting of two dissimilar kinds of mind produces difficulties both for the robots and people, and ...

Generation of electricity using turbine technology is very popular around the globe since most of the processes such as hydro energy are clean and renewable. Additionally, some do not pose a huge threat in human life and the environment. The traditional method of using turbine technology is very popular and wanted in many countries due to the economical cost of building and maintaining the generation plant. Additionally, the turbine technology is more efficient. This is because it can employ a number of fossil fuels, water, geothermal energy or wind to generate electricity. Hence, the country has a greater variety ...

The facts are impossible to ignore: focusing on places, health and walkability requires increased public transit infrastructure, which creates new jobs, enlivens neighborhoods, creates local business opportunities and connects communities, both vulnerable and thriving, to vital amenities and resources. (Raphael &Espiau, 2010, par. 9)
Transit-oriented development (TOD) is a neighborhood development plan focusing on easy access to major transit stops. These short stories are both written in English and deal with the past history of Empire. However, they differ in significant ways as this essay will demonstrate and, in their differences, they exhibit very different views of European colonization. ‘An Outpost of Progress’ is very critical of the notion of colonialism, while ‘The Outstation’ sees colonization in a more benevolent light.
Conrad’s ‘An Outpost of Progress’ is set in the Belgian Congo towards the end of the 19th century. We can tell the colony is Belgain partly from the names of the characters (one is Flemish, the other ...

For centuries, human beings have been using plants for various purposes. Humans rely on plants for food, and use plant materials to create clothing or build shelter. In modern society, people found various ways to use plants or create plant-based products. The succeeding discussion explores the ways that plants are being used in the modern world and the benefits and contributions of plants ...
The media is everywhere today. It is the primary news source, as well as the primary way we are shown the new and latest items on the market. It is easy to accept the information we are given at first glance without doing any outside research. However, this approach can be harmful because the media is sometimes biased. Political unrest all over the world is often reported in a biased manner at the news station’s discretion. Other news reports are often altered or tailored based on the station’s sponsors. Meanwhile many advertisements run in between these new ...

The role of the media is a complex and multifaceted idea that cannot be understood unless it is critically viewed with reference to the various role-of-the-media models dependent on what an individual is seeking. Various models have been formulated to help in analyzing the role of the media with Nordenstreng, Christians, Glasser and Mcquail’s five paradigms model being one of such proven models. To Nordenstren et al, the role of the media can be argued within five paradigms; Liberal-individualistic paradigm, Social ...

Mr. Briggs speech was related with many theories and one of the theories that I liked the most is employee motivation where Mr. Briggs said that ‘You got to know your people, you got to know who their mom and dad ...

Media can be a very effective tool in addressing societal issues. Often referred to as the fourth estate, in fact it is a duty for the media to be at the forefront of change- more so, among the voiceless in society usually those afflicted by poverty. Poverty can be defined as a paucity of material possessions or money. However, we need to look at poverty in a broader sense. A minority group be it religious, people living with disabilities, a different race or tribe face poverty but in a different sense. Their small numbers may result in their needs ...
In Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, the dangers of imperialism - and the line between man and beast - are explored in detail, through the story of Charlie Marlow and his encounters with Mr. Kurtz. The place and the right of civilized man to command and control other cultures that are less technologically advanced is explored, as is the transition of men between good and evil. While many physical objects are used in literature to denote certain things, Conrad's use of the Africans in his book constitutes, just as easily, the same narrative and thematic purpose of an object. ...

It would be intriguing indeed to read an account of the initial colonization of Africa or the Americas by the indigenous peoples instead of viewing events through the ideological filters of the Europeans who landed their ships on these new shores, motivated by God, Gold and/or Glory (and not necessarily in that order). While there are many works that effectively describe the ways in which the entities in power had complete control over those in the new colonies, the story of Kurtz in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness may be the most compelling portrait in all of literature of ...
A THOUSAND WORDS
This short 2008 film directed by Ted Chung is about what the supporting text to the video describes as one of “so many opportunities to connect.” Essentially, it depicts – in black and white, not color – a few shared minutes of a young man and young woman, travelling (separately) on a Metro train in Los Angeles; he with his bicycle parked alongside his seat while she has a large cardboard box placed on the seat next to her. They make eye contact – which though brief seems to suggest mutual interest. The young woman is busy with her compact camera, apparently ...
Ernest Hemingway’s story, “Hills Like White Elephants” relies on dialogue to present two fully rounded characters and to illustrate their relationship, and the dilemma within it. A story of a young couple who disagree over the decision to have an abortion, the piece is written intelligently and clearly while avoiding any definitive words describing the nature of the disagreement. Hemmingway also uses symbolism, through setting, to reiterate the situation. Overall, this short story conveys a complex theme and characterisation while using relatively few narrative devices.
“Hills Like White Elephants” tells a story with an almost exclusive use of ...

In times of war, the need for leadership within organizations becomes particularly important, because the decisions do not typically affect balance sheets or income statements; instead, they can result in the loss of human life, and even a change in a country’s government, if that country ends up losing a war as a result of poor decisions. The leadership that Lt. General William H. Tunner showed in the Hump and Berlin airlifts, as well as in later transport operations, showed the benefits and disadvantages of his particular leadership style. While his own personal strengths helped him manage operations ...

Whalter White, Steve McGarrett, Gregory House and many others are amongst the most favorite fictional anti-heroes from the television series shown in today’s 21st century. They are not heroes because they do not possess the traditional heroic characteristics like perfection, brilliance, strength, etc but they are not villains either because they are not evil, immoral and diabolical. Anti-heroes first look like very wicked, uncaring, selfish or immoral but as their stories progresses, viewers get to learn how twisted their personalities are and what are the reasons behind it. They seem to purse adverse actions but their hearts are ...
No man is an island. Although it may sound cliche in the modern society that people live in today, this quote bears a big importance in the formation of groups and society. Every individual is unique. Some come from different walks of life, while others are defined by their beliefs and values. There is also the difference brought about by the geographical location where everyone is born, as well as the various ways that individual is raised by their own families. Despite the differences, people became tied together and formed groups because of language. People of the past communicated ...
While Ernest Hemingway is commonly associated with living the masculine ideal, in many of his stories he shows a more tenuous grasp of gender roles than one might think a man nicknamed “Papa” who spent his life pursuing such adventures would hold. Hemingway drove an ambulance in a civil war that did not even involve his country; he was a huge fan of bullfights; he was an even bigger fan of hunting. However, such characters as Lady Brett Ashley, whose very name shows a diagonal meandering across gender lines, is a woman who acts like a stereotypical man in ...

ISSUE: The issue is whether or not the defendant is liable for failure to give warning of the potential danger that may be caused to the user of the product.
RULING: The Supreme Court held that in a failure to warn case, the important element that has to be proven is knowledge on the part of the defendant. Thus, the burden of proof that the defendant had known of the danger in using the product is shifted to the plaintiff.
ANALYSIS: In the case of spouses Woodill, the parents of the minor ...

The short story “Hills Like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway tells the tale of Jig and the American, two characters with a great deal of ambiguity and complexity arguing about an implicit conflict of which the audience is given very few details. By keeping the nature of their conflict and relationship ambiguous, Hemingway allows the audience to fill in the blanks with their own biases, prejudices, and interpretations. While there are many different interpretations available for “Hills Like White Elephants,” the most plausible explanation is that Jig and the American are (or were) in a relationship, Jig is pregnant, ...
Compare and contrast the central city and two suburbs: Baltimore, Maryland and the suburban areas of Columbia and Towson
Brief History of Each Area
Baltimore was established as a county in 1659 and David Jones who owned 380 acres of land in 1661 first settled it. The most attractive and important aspect ion determining the location of the city was the geology at the mouth of the Patapsco River forming the Port of Baltimore, which was later changed to Inner harborHarbor. The large number of farmers from the surrounding areas significantly motivated the city. Water flowing to the Patapsco fall line was efficient for driving mills the heavy tobacco farming in the surrounding areas resulted in many shipments ...

Discussion of Results and Conclusions
This dissertation began with a quote from Raphael and Espiau (2010, par. 9) describing the positive outcomes that are the goals of TOD. Those goals include offering a high quality of life, healthy neighborhoods, and increased public transit infrastructure. The goals are expected to create equitable communities because jobs and equal access to facilities and services exist. Hollywood in Los Angeles County (LAC) has had especially challenging problems due to the sheer number of cars and people involved in the congestion of the highways. The LAC Metro has been a forerunner in the U.S. ...

The position of the United Kingdom as a prime world aviation hub is at risk due to its ability to meet increasing capacity requirements. Heathrow is functioning at 98.5 per cent of its capacity and there is a substantial shortage of runways in the south east, indicating that the UK economy is at loss of nearly £1.2 billion a year to France, the Netherlands, and Germany. As experts confirm, adjusting and rearranging new schedules and altering flight slots will not resolve Heathrow’s shortage of capacity but neither will constructing a new multi runway hub airport within the Thames ...
The initial several decades of the Arab press history clearly grew in terms of modernization in terms of content in news. One key reason for such modernization was related to the initial journalists especially from Syria and Lebanon who entered the field of journalism to contribute their intellect without having any concerns of making profits. In fact at that time the profession of journalism was not even considered as profit making source. These pioneer journalists of Lebanon and Syria were forced to move out of their countries of origin to foreign countries like United States due to several restrictions ...

As put by Dalmas Taylor and Irwin Altman in the Social penetration theory, the interpersonal communication in a relationship develops from shallow and non intimate levels between individuals to a more intimate communication (Griffin, 113). In this theory, the two psychologists state identify the path of communication in a relationship as one that starts by general communication between individuals to an in depth and detailed one. Ideally, this theory is true as I came to learn from my relationship with my supervisor. The following essay will give a real life experience of the social penetration theory.

Love is an ever-present theme in people’s lives; everyone would like to have it because it makes them feel happy and satisfied. Some of couple would get married because they think that marriage is the continuation of a love affair. However, this begs the question: what is marriage? Some people assert that marriage like a besieged city: inside the city, people want to come out, but outside the city of people want to go in. Other people think ...
