It was much more difficult for the US to give more foreign aid than other countries as a percentage of GNI. That’s why the US was only 19th among the most developed nations in such a ranking, though it ranked the 1st in total amount of money contributed. This means that the US contributes the most because of its size and wealth but as a percentage of GNI these sums seem quite moderate, especially in comparison with some European countries (Sweden, Norway, Luxembourg, Denmark, etc.).
