For the aim of the following research paper, a comparison between the Google Scholar database and PubMed was conducted. Herein, it is integral to note that the chosen topic for researching reliable and credible reference remained ischemic stroke. The rationale for selecting the subject is my personal experience and concern about the category of stroke. I have had the experience of undergoing the ischemic stroke, and hence, I had already read and assessed it.
During the activity of comparing the database, I had first searched for the subject, ischemic stroke, using the PubMed database. The topic was narrowed down using the available filter for the users of PubMed. I had selected three filters while undergoing the search for the relevant article. I had chosen the option of the randomized controlled trial from the type of documents. Also, the second filter that I had used for narrowing down my research for the helpful reference was the full-text type of references.
I also ensured that the duration of publication was set to last five years. As far as my experience with Google Scholar is concerned, the only filter that I was able to apply for narrowing down my research regarding the chosen subject included the year of publication. As far as other indicators or filters are concerned, Google Scholar lacks such filter which can provide help in selecting a reliable and credible source systematically.
In the process of selecting the article from the PubMed database, I had chosen the article, entitled, ‘Clopidogrel and ischemic stroke outcomes by smoking status: Smoker's paradox?’ (Zhang, et al., 2017). The article is credible because it has been published in a peer-reviewed journal and has been cited by other researchers as well. It is relevant to research with grant support for which the information has also been disclosed. The research has an efficient research method. I had selected PubMed for selecting the article because of the increased credibility of the article, and other references using filters and subject narrowing options.
Herein, it is worth noting that conducting thorough and efficient research is significant for evidence-based practice. Scholarly work must be selected for ensuring reliable information when it comes to practical implication. At the same time, I believe that nursing professional must understand the need of self-developing for professional efficiency using credible and reliable research work. The practice had enabled me to assess and compare various sources of credible sources using filters and other needful indicators.
