The Human Resources department of a company is one of the vital departments in any kind of organization. It is a department where the interest of the employees is carefully taken into consideration vis-à-vis the needs or the interest of the company itself. In the case of the this major hotel industry, we can see based on their actions that the company’s decision whether to expand or not relies mainly on the suggestions of an executive which is composed of no other than the CHRO, CMO, CFO, COO and the CEO of the company.
After reading the proceedings of the meeting they conducted and the respective officer’s suggestions, we can infer that indeed, the CHRO’s suggestions was bend towards respecting what they have before inorder to have “satisfied employees”. While we see the suggestions of the others are all bent towards the maximization of profits of the company, that of the CHRO is bent towards increasing the knowledge, skills and abilities, both for local and “American employees” who will be tapped to enhance the abilities of the local employees. It also looks at how the employees in the region where the expansion is to take place adheres to approved labor policies in that region. Although, it will be a global company, each location have their own rules and regulations that has to be adhered to, even if this can cost a little on the part of the company.
Based on Patrick M. Whrigt of the HR Association Policy Association (2013), an CHRO serves as an strategic advisor to an executive team which particularly focuses on coaching or counseling of team members to avoid interpersonal conflicts and identity the required present and future capital of the company. Further, he specifically mentions talent, performance management, training and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations and health, safety and security as the main focus of a CHRO. In an article on factors that should be considered during expansion of a business from entrepreneurialconnection.com (2013), one of the factors listed is to find workers or train the existing personnel of a company because one must recognize that the quality of human resources are the main drivers of the success of a company.
