How to decide which films to watch
Personally, I decide the film I have to watch by using many features. Some of them include the following: mood, environment, who I am watching with, the nature of the film, and the moral lesson that the film has. The mood in this case tells us about the feelings towards the characters in the film. The question that I need to ask myself is “am I going to enjoy it?” Often, I normally watch to relive pain, to get comfort and even to settle my mind. Environment refers to the surrounding. I have to consider current surrounding i.e. the ...
In Zack Snyder's film adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel 300, a group of Spartans, led by Leonidas (Gerard Butler) engage on a bloody and patriotic campaign of destruction in order to defend Sparta from the oppressive, mercurial and mythic Persians, led by Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). In this film, the value of community responsibility is placed above all else, as the 300 Spartans are tasked with the ultimate defense of their homeland without fail. Many instances of mythological symbolism occur in the film; Leonidas kicking the messenger down what seems to be a bottomless well, after declaring "THIS ...
Interpersonal conflict is in every part of our lives. Apparently, even a movie can’t go without it. It gives many movies the ground from which they can then blossom. The movie “Hitch” gives a clear example of an interpersonal conflict. The two characters of the story, Alex and Sara, get into a fight over simple miscommunication.
These two people who have only recently met make a common mistake. They don’t tell the whole story and don’t stop to listen. If only Alex had told Sara about what he does, how he does it and in which ...

Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway tells the tale of an aspiring playwright (John Cusack) who quickly discovers he has no talent, even as he schemes with the mob to finance his first play. Eventually, he soon falls into adultery and plagiarism, along with all the typical jabs at the moviemaking business typical of a Woody Allen picture on the subject. However, at the same time, it also discusses ideas of how to find one's calling in life, and how our passions may not necessarily be our strengths. In that sense, it touches on ideas of eudaimonia - the enlightenment ...
Oliver Parker’s version of ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ is a witty horror movie that captures subtlety of Oscar Wilde’s writing. The movie is somewhat different from previous attempts of screening the story about a young and handsome Dorian Gray.

Capitalism generally refers to an economic system that encourages the private accumulation of capital. As such, there is usually an aspect of competitive marketing which may be abused as a consequence of bigger disparities in wealth creation. The need of creation of awareness among the disadvantaged is important as the review will reveal herein after.

Movie Review of Strangers on a Train
The film Strangers on a Train is a study in irony, coincidence, and good versus evil. The film’s plot revolves around a chance meeting between a famous tennis player, Guy Haines (Haines) and a pampered, spoiled, mama’s boy named Bruno Antony (Antony). It is obvious from the beginning that Antony is mentally unbalanced. It is Haines’ misfortune to run into Antony. While watching this film, many questions come to mind.
The first question is regarding the meeting of Haines and Antony. The meeting between Haines and Antony appears to be coincidental. Is it? Antony recognizes Haines and ...
When Memento was released, the most intriguing element of the film, to reviewers, was the intertwining of one narrative in chronological order with another in reverse chronological order, both of which meet at the film’s climax. The main character of the film, Leonard Shelby, and his wife, have been attacked. His wife is dead, and he suffers from anterograde amnesia as a result. This disorder keeps him from processing short-term memories into long-term retention. He carries a collection of annotated Polaroids around with him to help him deal with the stimuli around him, to make the best decisions ...

The documentary generally puts forth some kind of analytical argument or story in a narrative flow. The Thin Blue Line meets those criteria, but pushes the boundaries of this kind of storytelling. In fact, Errol Morris’ 1988 film ...

“What happens when wrong feels right and right feels wrong? When situations that appear to be black and white turn out to be gray?” (The Literary Analyst). The bygone philosophy of novelists writing what they desire stands firm. For me, a director holds the same status when it comes to films, in fact all artists irrespective of their desired form of art should have the liberty to think and make people do the same. This perfectly sounds true of Ben Affleck’s triumphant and remarkable debut in Gone Baby Gone (2007), which is an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s ...

Films have developed out of dramatic and narrative tradition in which storytelling is used as a central concern. The filmmakers have challenged the manipulative and seductive power of narratives by using playful resistance to the convention of narratives, or by exploring other forms of medium. For example, filmmakers have used the interplays of gesture and rhythm, sound and image rather than relying on character psychology and plot mechanics. However, non-narrative film has a smaller audience than narrative films. A good example is aircraft passengers watching the direction of the nearest exit pointed out by flight attendants, which reminds the ...
Disney’s “The Lion King” exemplifies the many struggles and triumphs of leadership in several ways. It can be surprising to the untrained eye than an animated children’s movie could hold the valuable lessons by such a complex concept but it is true. Even Kouzes Posner’s framework for Leadership is exemplified throughout the movie. There are multiple characters that take on leadership roles at different times throughout the movie, but the primary leaders are Mufasa, the initial King we meet, his son, Simba, and Mufasa’s evil brother, Scar. Each exemplifies leadership in their own ways, showing ...

"I wanna be Like Mike documentary"
This documentary presents the idea of shift in the perception of opportunity among parents and young people in America. I agree that education in the United States was traditionally treated as being an important pipeline to well-paying jobs and a better life. However, this supposition has slowly been dissolved as the idea of drafting into the NBA has become engrained into the US cultural framework. The American society seems to have little concern about education. Parents and young people have embraced the idea that you do not have to necessarily be educated to be in a position to make ...

Movie Review: Examine the videos of Huang and Pattanaik through the eyes of globalization. Each of the presenters is making the argument that Western industrial development does not overwhelm culture, and that their 'lesser developed' countries have much to teach the West. Do you agree, disagree and why?
- Medical Doctor Devdutt Pattanaik, in his presentation entitled: “East vs. West -- the myths that mystify,” shared his views about the difference between “the world” (logos) and “my world” (mythos). He gave mythological and real-world examples about objective and subjective truths. My personal stance is that I do not subscribe ...
The Da Vinci Code is a well-known book and movie. As well as being a blockbuster as a film, it also raises some serious religious themes. The nature of faith is one, particularly with relation to faith being based on ignorance. Another important theme is that of the reliability of historical texts. The Bible is just one more historical text, and one which has gone through many translations over the centuries. Although I was never religious, The Da Vinci Code has changed my perception of religion, possibly forever.
The movie begins as the curator of the Louvre museum is ...
