There have been several versions of the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act since its first introduction in 2001. For the purposes of this discussion pertaining to whether the DREAM Act is a good idea or not this writer will take into consideration the most recent version, which was rejected by the senate in 2010 December. While the DREAM ACT appears, generally, to be a great idea, the provisions of 2010 legislation can be considered discriminatory in many ways. Considering the idea of providing people classified ‘illegal immigrants’ or undocumented who have entered this country illegally/ ...

The cell phone is undeniably a great technological innovation of the twenty first century. It started off as an expensive gadget used by security agencies, government agencies and members of the high society. Gradually, the cell phone became a very important tool of communication especially in business. For quite sometime, the cell phone remained a symbol of status and not many people talked about the possible hazards posed by its continued use. The few members of the society fortunate enough to own a cell phone continued to use the device oblivious of the dangers they got exposed to. As ...
OBAMA CARE
Introduction
The term Obama care is more or less a derogatory term coined by the critics of the affordable care act put in place by president Barack Obama. The literal meaning of the term Obama care is quite disturbing to say the least. This is because it refers to the type of care that is more inclined towards president Barack Obama as opposed to the entire nation. The question thus arises as to the true nature of this Obama care and whether or not it favors the greater good of the nation or it is a desperate plan by ...

Traditionally a small antique town surrounded by strawberry fields and a bucolic ambience, Old Bellevue, is currently one of the most appealing and developed towns in Bellevue. Old Bellevue is located at the center of Bellevue and stands as a shopping destination for many of the affluent individuals from within and without Bellevue. Its name “Old Bellevue” sounds ironic, as there is nothing looks old in the town. As a commercial district for Bellevue, Old Bellevue previously had small shops that catered for the local community needs as the town developed into a thriving center of the Eastside. The ...
According to Hillman, Pictorial or wordless books contain pictures and pure illustrations in a volume that illustrates it all; “tell it all”. However, certain wordless books have minimal wording and labels. Others have phrases and single sentences alongside the illustrations (Hillman, 2010). These books comprise all genes; fiction, poetry, fantasy, biography and nonfiction. Such is a sample of books fellow learners, and I used to aid our understanding of the content of what is taught by the teacher (Wendy, Janice, Amy & Abigail, 2011). We actively participated and fully concentrated on what was taught by our teacher through graphical representations ...

In the contemporary era, cell phones have turned out as one of the most important everyday requirements. There was a time when possessing a cell phone was regarded a luxurious thing. On the other hand, it is common to own a cell phone in the present day. It is not an untold secret that children, especially the teenagers, are using the cell phones just like adults. They use their cell phones to do almost everything. Not only are cell phones used to stay in touch with family and friends, they are also used for watching ...
Children, as our messengers into the future we will not be able to experience, are our most valuable resource. Hence, the serious threat juvenile delinquents pose to the current and future safety of the American society. Debates have aroused about parents’ legal responsibility for their minor children’s behavior, both civil and criminal. So far, there are laws established that hold parents only civilly liable, like the Parent Liability Child’s act, where the parent’s obligation is to pay, depending on the State’s maximum monetary amount, for damage done by their minor children until they reach the ...
The life of all the contemporary guitarists that started playing after 1980s was closely connected with the creation of grunge music and the “Nirvana”, in particular, as every guitarist had been learning the “Smells like Teen Spirit” as his first song on guitar during that time. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the genre of the band itself, the other characteristics of the genre that were used by different musicians of the time and after this period; the roots of the genre will be discussed there.
The musical style of Nirvana was best described by its ...
It has been said that a definition of insanity is the compulsion to repeat the same actions over and over again while expecting a different result. This is evident both on the institutional level and the individual level, whether one looks at attempts by the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys to spend heavily on a handful of players while leaving many of their other position needs unmet, or at the inexplicable tendency of victims of domestic violence to keep going back to their abusers, often refusing to press charges until the absolute worst happens. An unwillingness to change ...

The media is a powerful thing in today’s modern world. No matter where we go, it seems there is always a screen in our face. We have the ability to watch television shows, movies, and advertisements from any device imaginable. Whether it is from the comfort of our living room sofa, watching on our big screen television, or from a chair in a quiet coffee shop, watching from our small cellphone screen, we carry the media with us wherever we go. Teenage mass murdering is a horrifying subject. It immediately brings up memories of Columbine massacre, Virginia Tech shooting and other mass murders, which took place in past 20 years. It cannot be forgotten, and people still remember what had happened but there is no clear answer to why did this happen. There have been thousands of articles on this topic and numerous books were written, however, this problem still exists. What or who is the one to blame? Thoughts vary from blaming parents to blaming videogames, government or church. Even if it is unlikely to change the whole world, ...
Should Children Who Commit Crime be tried as Adults?
Before the introduction of Juvenile Court System in 1899, individuals under 17 years who committed a crime were subjected to a similar system as adults. However, psychologists discovered that contrary to the perception that juveniles were hardened criminals, they are youths who have lost their way. Thus, the main objective for the introduction of the Juvenile Court System was not to imprison and punish the juveniles, but to rehabilitate them. This system works under the same viewpoint as the other justice system, which concentrates on encouraging good behavior instead of punishing bad. Victims are given a number of opportunities ...

A primate is any member that belongs to the group of apes, monkeys and humans. Primates are warm-blooded mammals that unlike most of the groups of living organisms such as reptiles, primates have maternal instincts, and they take care of their young ones from birth. Scientists say that apes share 98 percent of the genetic print with humans and thus they are the closest living ...
Arcangelo Corelli
Arcangelo Corelli is one of the greatest violinists. He is considered to be the founder of modern violin technique. Corelli was one of the key figures of Italian music in XVII-XVIII centuries. Corelli’s works, without exaggeration, can be called masterpieces of Italian classical music.
His compositions are embodied rigor, modesty and simplicity. But, at the same time, they are written with the perfect taste, in his exquisite manner. His style is clear and unique. You won’t hear such unnecessary details in Corelli’s compositions like external effects, random notes – each sound has own place. And, at the ...

Life accords everyone an opportunity of living once; in this case, one ought to be careful of the choices taken. Many teenagers make wrong decision by leading a life of crime without the knowledge that every misdeed has a consequence. In some instances when the young commit serious crimes, they are subject to the Adult court and get the available punishment. This paper critically argues in favor of the adult court by exposing juveniles to life imprisonment or even prison without parole. Mccabe (2007) argue that in the current society, the crime rates continue to skyrocket and the minors ...

Along with health- and welfare-related rights, the right to housing is one of crucial human rights. Thus homelessness represents an important human rights and social concern. According to the definition by the UN Economic Commission for Europe Conference of European Statisticians, homelessness can be viewed either as primary state (rooflessness or the case of persons, living in the streets) or a secondary one (the case of persons with no place of usual residence, who often move between different types of temporary accommodation) (UN Economic and Social Council 3). In the US homelessness is viewed in broader terms. According to ...

There are many variables to take into account while making this decision. Not all parents consider all of these variables; some think it is okay to argue in front of children and will not damage ...

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program
One of the most effective prevention programs for teen pregnancy is the one that starts from school. This certainly does not mean that community-based programs, media campaigns or clinic interventions are ineffective but rather these programs are difficult to evaluate and generally funding is not providing or with lesser impact to evaluate the result of the intervention program. The reason school-based intervention is significant, because school is a natural learning place where attempts are made to change adolescent attitude, behavior, and concepts. Teachers and school learning play their role to document the change within teenagers ( ...

Despite efforts of the federal government, schools, and parents in preventing the youth from engaging in vices, the youth still gravitates toward abusing substances such as alcohol, cigarette, and drugs due to the $25 billion worth of advertisements that are shown during the airing of movies and television programs. It seems that advertisers discovered that the media depiction of substance use would be more effective than traditional advertising. This is because in general, media contents are seen as positive; otherwise, they would not be released for public viewing. Moreover, media depictions would not induce criticisms as much as advertising ...

Anyone aged 16-17 is supposed to be deciding the consent for their treatment.

Insecurity and Safeguarding Ideal: The Catcher in the Rye
“The Catcher in the Rye”, this inspirational literary work, Jerome David Salinger’s masterpiece, marked the adolescence of many and it continues to fascinate teenagers and adults alike. The adventures of Holden Caulfield, which describe several days in his life, seem to reveal an autobiographic experience, as it vividly describes thoughts, feelings and sensations that could only be felt, not imagined. Salinger’s novel seems a story told to a friend in the dorm, in a sleepless night while secretly sharing cigars, although the smoking is denied within the boys’ dormitory. “Catcher in the Rye” is an expression of ...
The question on whether the Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) should be lowered has elicited much debate in the recent years. The proponents to the proposal of lowering the MLDA argue that setting it at 21 years has not resulted in the control of underage drinking, but has instead led to cases of binge drinking which leads to health and life-threatening behavior among the teens. The opponents, on the other hand, argue that at 18 years, the teens have not attained an age where they can responsibly handle drinking, and as a result they have a higher tendency to ...
Social media interaction currently has taken control of both online and offline dialog. In a community where interacting and over-sharing online is the culture, one is likely to chat with friends and relatives through electronic devices instead of face to face. These changes have had much impact on the interpersonal social skills among the young and old individuals. As a result of increased technological changes, both internet, and other media have been embraced and are coordinated (Baym, Nancy, Yan, Zhang, and Mei-Chen Lin, 6). This has had much impact on youth’s way of life, activities, attitude, and behaviors. ...

Defining civil disobedience is not something that can be considered as easy, just as most scholars would agree. It is a concept that harbours various interpretations making it difficult for one single definition to define exactly what the concept is. However, for clarity purposes, civil disobedience can be defined as a deliberate, public and nonviolent act that is unlawful whereby the culprit/s accepts responsibility and punishment (Camus 52). It is a nonviolent protest aimed at alleviating some injustice, often with an appeal to some higher principle of law. Rebellion, on the other hand, can be defined to ...
