This paper will argue that despite habit, custom, and the existence of God, one does not know in fact if the future will be a resemblance of the past. Basing on the works of famous philosophers Immanuel Kant and David Hume, we’ll come to the conclusion that no one can foresee one’s future even on the basis of strict knowledge of the past and even having habits and customs that presumably have to ...

Employee engagement and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB)
Employee engagement is an organization approach aimed at ensuring employees commitment to their organization’s goals and values, and motivates them to take part in the success of the organization. Organizations expect employees to offer more of their potential and capability. According to Rich, Lepine & Crawford (2010), employee’s motivation leads to high levels of job performance. On the other hand, employee engagement is relatively related to organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Employee engagement to their workplace determines their commitment to the organization, hence promoting OCB (Bhatnagar & Biswas, 2010). FAMILY AND SOCIETY
Meeting new people, working, walking and even living in the environment with the others makes us think of our attitude to them, our mood, words we say and actions we do, therefore sociology takes so important place in life of every human on the Earth. Our present day society is multicultural and each member of it is an individual with his own problems and reasons for happiness but there also exist topics which should be regarded as a common and undivided set of confusions existing in modern society. Such topics are discussed in different articles but the ones I ...

But there was a gender inequality in the society, as men could do anything they wished and can even break the norms but women were expected to follow the norms rigidly. In earlier ...

Love is difficult to define as a concept; it carries philosophical, social, cultural, political, biological and even spiritual meanings to many people for many different reasons. However, despite the differences in culture and attitude, love is an enduring concept that is found in most, if not all, modern cultures. As people, we are bound to others in a need for connection and bonding, but what fuels that connection? Is the thing that powers our need to love the same as mental illness? Is it a biological imperative or a social one, and is it healthy either way? It is ...

Shakespeare’s play, The Twelfth Night explores many aspects of human living and one of these aspects is Love. Various types of love are evident in the play. For instance, there is sibling love between Viola and Sebastian, romantic love expressed by Duke Orsino towards Countess Olivia and infatuation disguised as love as in the case of Malvolio’s feelings towards his lady Countess Olivia. Literature is universal. In modern societies, literature refers to the art of the written works that includes poems, short stories and novels. Literature reflects life. The themes usually portrayed in literary pieces are life, death, sickness, and survival. Literary pieces are written for children and adults alike. The manner by which the story unfolds in a literary piece signals whether a story is written for a child or for adults. This essay talks about the differences between how childhood is constructed in literature intended for adults and how childhood is constructed in literature intended for actual kids. Using the ...
The paper argues about the human mind exhibits unity; that it can perceive various activities occurring at the same time together as elements of a single conscious state. The unity of consciousness is fundamental to human cognitive functions. It is the basis in which we merge our senses and our minds to recognise, act and react. The unified consciousness is responsible for our ability to make comparisons based on our senses weaving it into one experience.
The notion of the unity of consciousness is the basis of cognitive research stemming from notable work by Descartes, Leibniz and Kant. Descartes’ ...

Domestic Violence
“Domestic violence” can be defined as “the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and other systematic behavior [designed] to be part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another.” It is a contagion impacting people in every community regardless of social station in life, age, gender, racial background, nationality, or religious pursuit. This action is commonly followed by psychological abuse and extreme domineering dispositions against the other partner; however, this is only a fraction of the structured pattern designed to force and domination over the other. Ultimately, the action of ...

Beginning as non-governmental consultants to the United Nations, the number of NGOs across the world has witnessed exponential growth since the 1980s. Although most people understand what an NGO is - the name itself makes it very clear that these are organizations that are not government run – there is little consensus on what may be described as key characteristics of an NGO. What influences a consumer’s purchasing behavior? A few factors that come to mind are brand awareness, product knowledge, advertisements, and references. To understand the depth of this intrinsic behavior, this paper explores the various factors that contribute to a consumer’s purchasing pattern. A very powerful tool that guides consumer behavior is word-of-mouth advertisement. Barry L. The main aim of this study was to determine if there was a statistical significant difference in how men and women perceive the primary aggressor, the more likely to sustain injuries, the appropriate punishment and who is likely to suffer the greatest trauma in domestic violence. Furthermore, the study also examined if there was gender based difference in individual variables such as, primary aggressor, injuries sustained, form of punishment and greatest trauma suffered. To achieve this, the analysis was divided into four parts, that is, (1) descriptive statistics; aimed at providing information on the collected data. (2) Reliability and ...

It appears that we, as a global society, are in the midst of a serious dilemma. While it would be foolish to under-utilize the power of our most recent communicational technologies, it has become apparent that there are legitimate and dangerous side effects associated with our current involvement with, and application of, cyber technologies. In this project, I will be studying the relationship between recent advances in communicational technologies and architecture, in order to analyze the current benefits and setbacks of both cyberspace, which has been created by various technological media, and the actual physical spaces which we live in, so that interpersonal communication in our physical world may be improved through the careful integration of the powerful and endless capabilities of cyberspace Gustavo Fischman(2005, 191).

The poor have always had to struggle throughout the generations. Often marginalized, the poor are whittled-down to a statistic. The poor represent different things to different people. Poor women, in particular, often find themselves with limited incomes, single parent responsibilities, low employment levels, and a need to receive aid from state and county welfare programs. This general aid includes government provided medical care. However, with the passage of recent healthcare policies, the types of therapies and treatments offered to and made available to poor women is changing. The five Cs of credit model – character, collateral, capital, conditions and capacity, all serve as important indicators for gauging the inclination and aptitude of debtors in fulfilling the obligations they have to their respective creditors (Sraeel, 2005, p. 40, par. 5; Strischek, 2009, par. 2). It is thus advisable for creditors to make their decisions based on the five Cs of credit model in order for them to assess the creditworthiness of their respective debtors properly (Strischek, 2011, par. 1). The prominence of the five Cs of credit model resurged most recently during the 2008 global financial ...

In the midst of a globalized world, it becomes vital to appreciate the varying types of economies carried by different nations and cultures. When examining the effects and attributes of capitalism as a whole, it is necessary to understand that not all capitalisms are created equal. Two basic types of capitalism exist: liberal market economies (LME) and coordinated market economies (CME) (Hall and Soskice 2001, p. 8). However, within these two major groupings there are many different types of capitalism, which all have their differences that make their particular brand of society unique. Organized crime has been a matter of major concern in the United States of America for a long period. Attempts to get rid of this social ill have not been fruitful. Mallory defines organized crime as an activity that is not allowed in the society and deal with illegal substances, and services such as drugs, gambling and stealing (Mallory 2007). Given this explanation, organized crime can be seen as a social institution that is socially disorganized. Organized crime has deemed to be problematic to eliminate from the society, despite the several attempts by the government to curb it. However, ...

The topic of consumer buying behavior has researched by a number of scholars, and each one of them has illustrated what are the possible factors that influence or guide consumer behavior. Therefore, when organizations plan their strategies to ‘guide’ consumers, they do so by studying these factors and using them to design and market their products or services. This involves the participation of all stakeholders in the planning and strategizing process. The stakeholders could include the design team, the production team, finance, marketing, purchase and stores to name a few, and it is the collective effort ...

The effects of bilingualism in a minority language on third language acquisition
Abstract
In the area of language acquisition, bilinguals differ from monolinguals in several ways. It is accepted that previous language knowledge is facilitative in developing proficiency in a new language and both the learner’s native and non-native languages can be sources of influence in acquiring a new language. Given the evidence that in some social situations knowledge of a second language is facilitative in learning a third, the paper investigates to what extent knowledge of a widely-spoken but non-official local language can be shown to be facilitative in this way. The students ...

Multiple linear regression analysis is a statistical tool of analysis that is commonly used to forecast a variable, which is dependent on several independent variables based on historical data. Multiple linear regression analysis is normally used to evaluate the nature of the correlation between the dependent variable denoted as y and the independent variables (X1, X2Xn). The developed model is then used to predict levels of the dependent variable y. Multiple linear regressions is important in business, economics, medicine, psychology among many other fields.
The correlation between Y predicted and Y actual is called the multiple correlation coefficients which ...

Abstract
In “The Death of the Author,” structuralist thinker Roland Barthes suggested the notion of the author as a distinct identity in the creation and interpretation of a text was a thing of the past. Instead, he preferred the use of the word “scriptor” to refer to the person writing or typing a work for the first time. The ideas in the scriptor's mind would have to travel through his or her semiotic filters to make it to the paper – those filters take the ideas and shape them – for example, the inspiration ...

The superhero comic book genre, as it has existed for the past few decades, is rife with a variety of stories, many of which involve virtuous heroes who stand for Truth, Justice and the American Way while saving innocent children from a burning building while non-lethally taking down some robbers. However, as comic book audiences have matured, comic books themselves have matured with them, leading to characters that are far more unscrupulous and ambiguous in their morality.
Central to this line of morally-grey antiheroes is Marvel Comics’ the Punisher (aka Frank Castle), a man with no superpowers – just an ...
