Re cognitas is consciousness and mind while res extensa is matter or extension. Decartes distinguished between what was thought in the mind through reflection and other thoughts. This means that consciousness in a sense is not a natural phenomenon but is rather dependant on the physical surroundings which make up our inner selves and beings. This is also reflected in the inner state of consciousness of the human being which cannot be always cognizant with that which surrounds us and which makes us part of this world. Nothwitstanding all this, I tend to agree that every thought which comes ...

E. A. Houseman’s poem “When I was One-and-Twenty” consists of two eight-line stanzas, which follow a traditional ballad rhyme scheme, where the second and the fourth line of each group rhyme. It is initially a very straightforward and simplistic poem, where the speaker expresses the willingness of youth to disregard the advice of the wise elder, who appeals to the youth to freely give away materialistic possessions, such as money, pearls and rubies, but to give a long and hard thought as to whom he is giving his heart to. The wise, old man offered valuable advice on ...

Such approach highly disadvantages business faculty and discourages people from attending summer classes. Arizona’s history is highly interesting if just because it is still considered by many as an unexplored territory of Native American Indians, outlaws with guns and horses, miles of flat, hot desert filled with poisonous species of snakes, scorpions and spiders, and sort of a state out of time. The truth is, is still is, but mostly it has joined the rest of the country, in 1912, and welcomed the modern world, yet, as a whole, it is a state misunderstood today, in that it stands strong for certain civil rights, yet stands against interference from other states ...
Question 1
Answer for Student 1 According to the article governmental expenditures can be subdivided into two categories: discretionary and nondiscretionary. Discretionary cost is the one federal government faces when paying for special items, which are included into the budget every fiscal year. Nondiscretionary expenditures are determined by entitlement programs, such as Social Security and healthcare, thus they are formula-driven and cannot be changed in the short-run. Both of them have contributed a lot to the current debt, however, nondiscretionary expenditures also persist, therefore taxpayers will pay more and more to cover these costs. The emergence of new social movements and other complementary drifts, which work hand, in hand with movements, have threatened to change the status quo in fair representation in New Zealand. The song “We Didn’t Start the Fire” is a catalog of some of the most significant figures associated with the years 1940 through 1990. As far as all of the sports figures go, though, the westward movement of baseball may have been the most earth-shattering development. When the Dodgers and Giants moved from New York City to Los Angeles and San Francisco, respectively, they added an entirely new fan base to the game – at the time, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City A’s were the westernmost frontier of the game. Slave Trade Compared To Human Trafficking
Slave trade and human traffic are common terms that are easily mistaken since they both encompass of human transfer. It is extremely difficult to differentiate the two terms especially if a keen study is not well established to distinguish the two terms. However, a keen study indicates that the slave trade and human trafficking are two diverse aspects that happened at two different eras. The slave trade took place during the colonial era while human trafficking is still taking place. For this reason, although the two have some similarity, the concepts are exceedingly difficult (Bales & Soodalter, 2010). For the ...

Break even analysis
The break even analysis method had been a slightly controversial issue about economics and management because many are debating whether it could indeed help a business survive in the long run or not. As a brief summary about what a break even or a break even analysis is, it could be considered as a point wherein a company or a corporation stays at a balanced level where there is no net loss or gain. When we say loss or gain, we mean profits and revenues.
So technically, when there is a break-even point, the outstanding costs and profits are ...

Also Sprach Zarathusthra by Richard Strauss
This symphonic poem is probably one of the greatest that the German composer Richard Strauss ever wrote. The film uses the opening for its entry and this is probably one of the most awe inspiring moments in the entire classical music canon. The way the timpani begin the scene in conjunction with the horns is extremely exciting and uplifting as the music then reaches an uninhibited climax which culminates in a succession of fanfares which even include the organ in their remit. The music is very descriptive and although it is loosely based on Nietzsche’s poem of the ...
"A work of art is an artifact that provokes an aesthetic experience" (Palmer 386)
Art in its various forms is always an eye opener and an experience so one has to approach it with an open mind. Take for example a symphony by Gustav Mahler such as the Third where the vast canvas of orchestral prowess provides a strangely philosophical and ethereal experience. In this sense the artifact is the music itself which rises to great crescendos and moves along with almost irresistible force whilst attempting to describe something which is not exactly clear. This in a nutshell is ...

Capital punishment is one of the most debatable issues all over the world. Time and time again the question arises as to whether or not death sentence should be given out to a human being who has committed the horrible crime of murdering a fellow human being. The very base of the death penalty is to send out a strong message to criminals out in the world and to deter them from performing a similar crime. Thus giving death ...
Shakespeare’s presentation of madness and blindness in King Lear are pervasive. Madness and blindness occur in the plot and in the sub-plot – in a literal and a figurative sense; they are frequently referred to in the language and imagery of the play; they are inextricably linked – the mistakes that certain characters make due to blindness lead inevitably to their insanity; some characters pretend to be mad or blind. In short, madness and blindness are far more than themes of the play – they are the play. Shakespeare weaves his entire play around madness and blindness and presents them so ...

Can indirect realism be demonstrated in the psychological laboratory?
The psychologist asserts that certain kind of scientific data strongly support the existence of a theory of knowledge commonly known as indirect or representative realism although it has been referred to by different names in various quarters. The aim of this paper is to show the difficulties inherent in such a view. Three steps will be required to achieve this aim. The first step will basically be an introduction in which the different classes of scientific facts presumed to be compelling evidence for representative realism will be summarized. The second step is the part in which how paradoxical the ...
Conflict can be broadly defined as a process, where two or more parties perceive that one of the parties can affect in a negative way something that the others care about. This definition is intentionally broad, incorporating a wide range of conflict types and characteristics. According to the interactionist view, conflicts are subdivided into functional and dysfunctional. Functional conflict is usually constructive and stimulating for the involved parties, because it enhances productivity, encourages creativity and motivates people. Dysfunctional conflict, however, is destructive, because it hinders group performance and prevents individuals from achieving their goals. Therefore, a minor level of ...
For this revision assignment, I chose to revise my Chapter 1 synthesis paper on solar power. In order to make these changes, I primarily used the instructor comments as a baseline for what needed to be changed. Overall, the consensus was that, while the essay was well-written, it lacked an argument, which I agree was not well considered. It was more difficult to see where the information from the sources ended and my opinions began; this led to an effective literature review that nonetheless failed as an argumentative essay.
With this in mind, I made a few revisions to ...

4. Understanding Communication of Persons with Disabilities as Cultural Communication
4.1 (a) A person without disability does not actually ponder over which term to use: “disabled person” or a “person with disability” while these two terms sound differently for a person with disability. The problem is that healthy people see people with disabilities as dependent and helpless while people with disability perceive themselves as full members of a society having some health issues. Disability is just a difference for the people who have it but it is perceived as abnormality or deficiency by healthy people (Samovar, Porter and McDaniel, ...

Introduction:
David Malouf’s book interestingly revisits ‘The Iliad’ by Homer and although there are certain liberties taken with the text and although these may depart from the original, they still make interesting reading in their own right. Homer’s Iliad is a magnificent text and the story does have moments of supreme glory in it as well as parts when it does appear to reach heroic heights. The main height of the book is when Achilles agrees to give Hector’s body to Priam which is treated a bit differently by Malouf when compared to Homer.
In The Iliad, Homer recounts that:
“Achilles then went ...
