Obesity is a huge issue, especially in developed countries, where people are used to leisurely life and work style. Obesity is often proclaimed by doctors not as a disease but a serious issue that can be cured; otherwise the issue can lead to a fatal disease. Most of the people who visit doctor have not identified themselves previously as being obese. What an unpleasant surprise when your doctor’s verdict is delivered and you finally got to know that you are obese! Majority of ordinary people, who did not regard themselves as obese earlier, cannot imagine what consequences and health issues obesity might cause them. How many, do you think, suffer from the disease in the US alone?
Officials from the National Institute of Health estimated that about thirty percent of America’s population can be classified as obese. Even more to the point, Americans constitute the highest number of individuals who are overweight in the world. Millions of grown-ups suffer from obesity in the country. Unhealthy foods and fats nowadays negatively contribute and harmfully affect the human body, since everywhere you go, there is plenty of such temptations on the menu. Today, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention set a high aim of reducing the obesity rate in the country, by controlling how certain risk groups eat and exercise on a daily basis. Obesity can become a serious pandemic in our nation, due to high numbers of overweight population, including teens and grownups. To be healthy, people need to think about and maintain their health every day, by doing physical exercise. We should also remember that obesity is harmful since it seriously reduces normal functioning of the body. The good news, though, is that obesity has a cure, which means the obese can get back to a healthy lifestyle if they are willing to follow their doctor’s instructions.
When I was old enough, I came to understand that obesity is a problem that can affect both the young and the old. One of such examples is my cousin Rachel, who has been obese throughout her childhood and young adult life. I saw how being obese puts a strain on her female body. Excess body fat is all but desirable, especially when it forces your heart to pump blood through the veins in a much faster manner than normal. Besides, other health issues start crawling in, including high blood pressure due to the strain on one’s heart. Finally, I witnessed how my cousin was struggling with normal body functioning, which, lastly, increased her chances of being diagnosed with diabetes.
My presentation and following speech will enlighten you how to live a more happy life, as a human being who is not obese and does not suffer from serious physical and mental illnesses, which many in American population are battling with frequently.
Preview of Main Points
My following speech will present the reasons for obesity present in our population, along with the main symptoms that will contain the answer on how to overcome the issue.
Main point 1
Obesity is a hot issue that brought along fierce debates in the country.
The poor and the rich are both influenced by obesity. Even more, the African-Americans has the highest obesity rate of 47.8%, according to national research. These populations develop obesity due to inactive lifestyles or those people who receive low pays. People often choose to by unhealthy substitutes instead of healthy nutrition. Lastly, a healthy weight can be maintained through daily exercise.
General diseases associated with obesity are diabetes, stroke, and hypertension. Such treatments in the United States cost millions of dollars per year.
Everybody needs to think about how to deal with different health issues to preserve a healthy body and mind, and to live longer. Nowadays, obesity can still be cured with a special diet, prescribed by doctor, or following an exercise plan. However, more important, is the person’s willpower to achieve his or her goal. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated that obesity is the issue connected with an excess amount of calories that most people consume daily.
Main point 2
Obesity has its specific reasons that I will elaborate on further.
Firstly, among the number of inhabitants, the United States faces the highest level of obesity among the poor and the rich population. Out of them, African-Americans present the highest obesity rate, which equals 47.8%. Obesity is common among those who lead inactive ways of life. Consequently, people who are overweight can develop different types of cancer. Secondly, the individuals who have low-paid jobs suffer more from overweight than those who have high-paid jobs. Thirdly, to keep up a normal weight, people need to exercise and eat healthily, otherwise excess weight can hinder their normal body functioning. Excess fat that people accumulate causes pressure on organs of the body that is why the obese have difficulties with breathing and moving, unlike many other people with a normal body weight.
Obesity has reached its high rates in the country due to a catastrophically inactive lifestyle of numerous individuals.
I hope that the issues presented by me added to you overall comprehension of what obesity actually is and how to overcome it, both in youngsters and grown-ups. Moreover, you might consider about helping your relatives or friends in the future, who suffer from excess overweight to avoid specific health issues and start living a normal life.
Restatement of thesis
My speech stated that that obesity is not a deadly disease, since it can be cured, in most cases.
Review of the main points: In my speech, I presented the key issues of obesity, which include wrong and unhealthy diet and lack of exercise, especially in the United States among the African-American population.
The facts presents in the speech suggest that people should not be indifferent to their own and other people’s problems instead they need to attend to the specific eating habits they choose to live healthier. Also, regular exercise can significantly improve the health for millions of Americans, who are doomed to obesity. As a result, healthcare costs would reduce significantly per person in the United States, if the rate of obesity was strictly controlled.
