Good Essay About A Day In Lions Old Age Home For The Blinds

Our organization ‘TEAM’ organized a day out at the Lion’s old age home for the blinds. We, as a team chose to serve these unfortunate people who had been abandoned by their family or have been left behind all alone to live a desolate life. The objectives of our team was to serve these miserable lives to the utmost, spend time sharing their emotions and unlived dreams, engaging them to participate in activities, arrange events for raising funds and spreading light and happiness in their dark world. I, personally felt like doing this activity because I have never been a witness to such an experience as I also have grandparents who are old and privileged to get love and happiness from their children and grandchildren. Hence the desire to serve them was built deep within.
The day started with a small introductory session whereby all the blind aged people were introduced one by one. All wore a smile on their sad and tired faces. The wrinkles outlined the worst situations that eroded and left marks on their skin. We were taken to their rooms which were all brightly coloured but to their luck, black was the only default colour that surrounded them. There was a reading room where these blind oldies read in Braille, a workplace where they did sewing, some made handicrafts while some did typing work. There were blind people who were highly educated and worked in well professional environment but lost vision gradually, some lost sight in accidents, some were born with it and some unfortunates were abandoned by their families who thought them to be burdens. We first arranged for some light fun activities which included singing, identifying the songs, quiz competition, debates on social issues etc. We then engaged them in planting saplings and trees activity where we taught them how the colour ‘Green’ was ecologically important and about conservation of nature. We served their lunch at their dining room and read stories to them, conveying messages that ‘every cloud has a silver lining’ and everyday there is something new to learn. The messages could not but much put a balm to their broken hearts; however they continued to smile.
I, personally felt a strong affinity towards their sadness but at the same time felt a great satisfaction to have served them and it was a new learning experience for me. We could not much fade away the darkness in which they are living in but educated them about engaging themselves more ecologically and about contributing themselves in social activities and issues as well as encouraged them to think that they exist in the society and play a vital role. This gave some the zeal to speak up, interact with us and discuss how they can contribute to the society on their part. I would like to serve more for such unfortunate abandoned blinded aged and work towards attaining their welfare and a happy future but most importantly be a part of their remembrance.
