RE : General Environmental Forces
This Memo serves as follow-up on your identified roles for your first international assignment after your recent training on Cultural Competency. As part of the company’s objective in building global knowledge, I have decided to focus on the five General Environment Areas including the company’s economy, technology, sociocultural issues, demographics, andpolitical or legal forces.
I want to know your opinion on with regard to improving the economy of our company, and at the same time, the technology that will help in achieving the objectives of our organization. In terms of sociocultural issues, I want to know that you think is essential to successfully achieve and manage a diverse and inclusive workforce. In order to achieve our global ambition, as managers, you must have a commitment to continuously strive to influence individuals, groups, organizations, and systems that are not like you. In effect, we have to study the strategies of our competitors, the needs of our customers, suppliers, and regulators, and how to improve our relationship with our strategic business partners
This means that as a team, our target is to create a global mindset and cross-cultural sensitivity by looking for particular means on how to connect emotionally with people who have different cultures, such as national, company or functional culture. By creating awareness on cultural sensitivities means that we should understand and respect other cultures rather than judging them. To put it in another perspective, it means that instead of being frustrated and intimidated by such differences, it is best that we learn to enjoy them and to seek them out since we find them fascinating. I consider diversity as one of the important elements to establish a global mindset in order to address the sociocultural issues that will help achieve the objective of our company.
