The world is on the run to look for the cheapest, easiest convenient sources of energy. It is a mystery why the same world is largely dependent on non-renewable source of energy. It has become blind to other solutions readily available like solar energy.
Solar Energy is a source of energy that is produced from the sun to make renewable energy in a process Concentrating Solar Power (CSP). The heat is transferred through radiation from the sun onto solar panel mirrors (Bradford 5). The heat is stored in these panels to be used later on. This form of energy was expensive 30 years ago, but today it appears to be the cheapest and most affordable. Its source is readily available and releases enough energy equivalents to all the world's fossil fuels.
The nature of the sun seems to discourage people from using it as a source of energy. For instance, the sun does not shine consistently on a daily basis. The energy cannot be harvested during the night as there is no sun to provide the energy. Finally, energy from the sun is not concentrated at one point. Bradford (6) argue that nonetheless, any person looking at a larger picture will realize that these challenges can be navigated by storing this energy during sunny days and be used during the night or rainy day. Spain has been able to do this by using a combination of sodium and potassium nitrate to store energy for over seven hours after the sun disappears. Besides, the solar panel presents us with the opportunity to store this energy for even longer duration. The dispersed energy from the sun can be collected, converted and stored at one particular point. Thus, the nature of the sun should not shy us away from enjoying its natural benefits.
Solar energy has various uses that make it the best source of energy for both domestic and commercial use. It can be used for heating water more efficiently than other modes of heating. For instance, a home using solar energy to heat its water saves about 1200 pounds of pollution yearly (Bradford 22). The argument about the solar energy being only dependable at the daytime can also be countered by the fact that the world's largest energy consumption takes place during the day. During the night, the little activities that require energy can be powered using the stored energy in the panels.
There is evidence proving that the solar energy is the most efficient source of energy in the world especially among diverse renewable energy. Its versatile nature provides the users with diverse options on where to use it. With the advancement in technology, solar energy can be tapped and stored for future use. Devices have been developed to ensure that this energy can be harnessed for various uses such as distilling water (Bradford 12). Like a bad addiction, I hope that we will be able to break the habit of using non-renewable energy and adopt solar energy that is environmentally friendly. The energy is the true alternative energy source that we can look up to to save the world from environmental degradation.
The world population is almost reaching seven billion, and we cannot afford to stick to our traditional sources of energy for obvious reasons. We must diversify and focus majorly on renewable source of energy to be able to supply sufficiently enough energy for this ever increasing demand. Solar energy provides the most favorable alternative to handling this challenge. It is my hope that we will embrace the opportunity that solar energy provide for us free of charge.
