Work ethics refers to believe in moral benefit of work, and its ability to enhance character. It is most relevant in personal, academic, social and professional goals because of several reasons (Moon, 2001). First, it helps to increase productivity at the workplace through enhanced teamwork among professionals. Secondly, it aids in proper decision making culture through the enhancement of accountability and transparency when undertaking business decisions. Thirdly, it sensitizes an individual to act consistently even in difficult times and finally it helps in asset protection by enabling an individual to protect and respect business assets. For instance, one is not compelled to use business lines for personal calls.
Skill is something you know and learnt about while competence is the effective application of a skill. During my class work I was able to learn the following skills: Initiative - this is the ability to come up with effective measures in the event that a problem arises; Accountability/Responsibility – this is the ability to control my individual actions and take up any burden arising from it; Teamwork - this is the ability to appreciate the role that each individual has to play in a team and its contribution to the overall success; and Cultural Awareness - whereby one appreciates the different and diverse culture of fellow workmates.
I do reinforce some of these issues relating to work ethics because I can identify the strong ones and apply them, while the bad ones I avoid. For instance, accountability, as an issue, is important. Without accountability in work environment employees will not take the incentive to avoid mistakes. In addition, nepotism is a bad ethical issue, since it leads to de-motivation of employees hence low performance (Hartman, 2005).
Globalization is the global integration of societies and economies through technology. My professional future in this context means a wider job market hence the essence of building a competitive profession to help me in competing effectively. Some of the opportunities of globalization is the creation of a wider job market and enhancement of innovativeness so as fit and compete effectively. While challenges include: brain drain, unemployment and shadow economy.
Some of the roles that education plays in my career and professional plans are as follows; firstly, it aid in career progression because it equips an individual with expertise. Secondly, it is important for eligibility purpose, whereby in order to be employment in any sector, good education and skill is required. Last, but not least, it promotes self-enlightenment that enhances awareness and lights up a flame of curiosity (Oak, 2013).
