General Context
The outbreak of the civil war in Syria in March 2011 resulted in the migration of an estimated 9 million Syrians who fled from their homes and sought refuge within their country and in neighboring countries. The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that more than 3 million Syrians have fled to the immediate neighbors including Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.
