We Must Tell Our Own Story
There exists in the world of sociology some controversy between two theories of thought. The debate is usually over a question like this “Which has more control over an individual’s life agency or structure?”
One side argues that people are confined behind the boundaries of social structures. How a person behaves within the structure is controlled by the boundaries or his perception of the boundaries. How a person acts depends on how the social structure (or hierarchy of social structures) “allows” him to act. There is free will only as it fits into the power structure of social systems. ...
