The article Global Warming: A Role for the Sun written by Tom Bethell successfully points out to its reader the uncertainty or the questionable and still controversial topic on the true status of the climate change. The main question still exists, and that is whether climate change remains a myth or a fact. The article cites several articles that point out that the Earth is not only the one experiencing climate change but as well as the other planets in the Solar System which is as far as Pluto. All of the articles mentioned by Bethell pinpoints the Sun as the main contributor in the climate change being experienced by the planets. Personally, I find this point logical because the sun is one of the things that are common to all of these planets, plus the fact that the sun is considered a star. Scientifically defined, stars are composed of burning gases that may increase in temperature as they burn. This may be one explanation why it is logical to assume that climate change is caused by the sun.
The article also tries to figure out the reasons while climatologist could not exactly predict the future of the weather. One reason behind why weathermen are not able to do this is because of the “so many variables to consider and no one really knows how they will interact” (Bethell, 2007). Climate prediction is harder since climatic history needs to be taken into consideration but most historical data were just based on assumptions as records were not taken thousands of years ago. Even with the lack of a stable proof of the existence or not of climate change, governments of different countries are spending billions of dollars on climate change studies because the issue has triggered panic among the members of the society. In fact, several governments are prioritizing to fund researches that are related to climate change. Although, this is not bad as prevention is still better than finding cure, everything is still based on assumptions as Bethell says that every output or every claim made by climatologists are still based on their personal theories and no one may ever prove or disprove each of those theories.
