Personal development plan
Personal leadership involves person’s qualities in solving problems related to leadership.
Being a leader is a challenge because of what one goes through. Being a manager you need to have managerial strengths to overcome such challenges. I am going to give my strength and weaknesses I face as manager of the organization. The first strength you need to have is managerial abilities. This gives a chance to encourage people to come up with new ideas which may assist us develop within andoutside the business.
The competences associated with managerial abilities are developed personally and relates itself with your relationship with other workers. This is collaborative competences with aspects like understanding self and others, communicating effectively with others, mentoring and developing others, managing groups and leading teams.
My main strengths are:Understanding self and others,managing groups and leading teams, organizing information flows,encouraging and enabling compliance,using power ethically and effectively,implementing and sustaining change,Setting goals and objectives, designing and organizing.My weaknesses are:Planning and coordinating, monitoring performance and quality, planning and coordinating projects, negotiating agreement and commitment, effective and honest communication.
I have two major weakness roles that I feel I have to change and evaluatethem carefully so that I can come up with full leadership qualifications.The first weakness role is monitoring role.The competences in this role are motivating self and others within the organization, good aspect of communicating to staff members clearly, managing groups and leading teams, using power ethically and effectively and fuelling and foresting innovations.I have visited many organizations and found that there is a need to improve such role for the success of the organization.
The second weakness is control role. Even if I find it difficult, there are some competences I try to emphasize on. They are; measuring and monitoring performance and quality, organizing information flow, developing and communicating visions. This was from the members comments.These two roles are difficult because of closeness with the workers during the time of working so to be serious with some of the issues is very hard. Managers should create a gap between themselves and workers.
For next 180 days, I want to visit different organizations and inquire howthey deal with some of the problems encountered in the organizations. I willalso try to share with some of the managers around and learn new businessideas and the target they have for their business. I am planning to invite foreigner managers from big organizations to come and share with us different ways of running organizations.
I will go to school so that I can learn more and do some research on good leadership qualities, going for workshops, participate in group work because we learn more when we work with others, set some goals and objectives and make sure I have accomplished them, try to design the organization well to increase the output, design change strategy, share with people about my plans so that they can advise mi accordingly, plan and implement some meetings with my workers which are productive, efficient and make sure they are well attended, I will also try to encourage innovations and support creative workers financially to go and study so that I can use their ideas to increase production.
Considering my two weaknesses, I am going to attend seminars to learn the skills I am supposed to use to monitor and coordinate my organization well. This will take place within two weeks or a month. I will get an opportunity to interact with others and get good ideas on these roles which I am weak with. Within the next 60 days, I am going to select the appropriate methods of communicating style basically with customers, eliminate common barriers of communication with my workers,and organizeseminars to my workers so that they can learn new requirements on matters related to their roles. The related aspect to communication roles are negotiating and speaking honestly. Communicating effectively make one to be a good leader. (Belasen.25).
Because everything will require finance, it will be included in the budget so that there will be no inconveniences. I am also going to emphasis oneducation so that workers will try to go for further studies to get moreknowledge in their field of specialization. To attain this, those who willbe promoted must have addition certificates over the other. I am going to introduce social department which will be moving around the market explaining to customers the uses of our product. The purpose of this is to reach customers who are not reached with advertisement over the radio.
Being a learned person with a knowledge, experience and skills of management, I am going to be the best in the market. Because of competition strategy I have in the market, my product is going to sell well in themarket and I will make more profit compared with other organizations. My plan to employ more qualified personnel guarantees quality products and
high sales per year. Because of my effort to encourage people to acquire newskills, they will get the necessary knowledge which will be used in production of quality goods within the economy hence increasing the profit.
When I keep the entire project under my control, I ensure that they are supervised well and incase of any failure I try to rectify. This maintainscontinues production in every day hence increasing the product. When I use face to face communication, I ensure that there is noinformation passesunnoticed by the workers. This ensures proper passage of information to everybody within the organization. Meeting with customers and discuss about the product. This gives us a chance to interact with them and later realizes the weak part of our product and improves it to meet the requirements of the customers. Maintaining each other’s culture within the organization creates close relationship between my workers and the environment. Solving conflicts according to their strengths enables mi to run the organization effectively without employing outside advocacy. I am able to gain respect and when I give orders, they are be followed due to this method of solving problems
In conclusion, managers in various organizations should strive to improvetheir planning techniques in order to enhance efficiency and high sales.This should be geared towards the achievement of the major objective of thefirms, which is profit maximization. In addition to this, firms shouldensure that the managers employed are competent and have the requiredskills to perform the overall activities of the firm. This will ensure thatthe functions of managers such as controlling, organizing, planning anddecision making are conducted appropriately.Special trainingsshould be integrated in organizations in order to enhance qualityleadership skills for the potential managers. Organizations should also adopt a way of giving their managers time and scholarship to go and study.
I also recommend other leaders and workers to have personal leadership plan to evaluate their leadership qualities for successful leadership life. I recommend that those with communication barriers to take the necessary measures because it is the most important role of leadership. They should also try to work close with their workers so that they can direct them where they don’t understand.
