<Name of Business School>
I have known the applicant in his initial role and capacity as a civil engineer for almost 14 months since I was transferred to the project office almost 10 months ago. The applicant was recently appointed as provisional Quality Control Manager, becoming one of the youngest individuals in the company’s history to be entrusted with this level of responsibility. As such, it could be deduced that the applicant’s innate drive and competency as a professional has been evidently exemplified.
The applicant’s knowledge and discernment of appropriate applications of theoretical frameworks in civil engineering have changed one’s mindset and transformed the way I appreciated his work. I have worked extensively with the applicant in conducting design calculations for rectification works at site. I clearly remembered when licenses for our tower cranes (7 total) were temporary withdrawn due to a crack on one of the masts, we worked together to come up with design calculations that showed that our concrete slabs could support 15-ton and 25-ton mobile cranes. This singular strategical action averted what would have been a two to three-month delay in our master schedule.
• The applicant coordinates in the most efficient manner the internal resources to implement sustainable design features to ensure that the project achieves the Malaysian government’s Green Building Index (GBI) Certification.
• The applicant likewise effectively leads a team of 8 employees in overseeing and developing concrete quality control procedures for over 120,000 cubic meter of concrete; resulting in every material sample reaching its design strength in the allotted period.
• Concurrently, the applicant prepares and analyzes our Contractor’s Submissions and monthly technical reports; as well as conducts structural design calculations for rectification works at site. Likewise, he performs daily site inspections to ensure construction activities are in compliance with design requirements.
involved in scheduling our activities at site and also developing the method statement (procedure) for complex tasks at site; which are consistent with the functions of organizing and planning that are already expected from a manager of high caliber.
His work ethics, discipline, and professionalism in the work setting is undoubtedly commendable and exemplary. Having worked as a civil engineer provided him with the academic background and expertise in designs that could aptly complement learning advanced theories and concepts which are required of him from his newly assumed position as a Quality Control Manager. He possesses strong drive to learn business models; as well as applications in the various functions of a manager; particularly focusing on the control function. He was also noted to possess effective interpersonal and communication skills; as well as innate skills in problem-solving and decision making. His length of experience working as a civil engineer would provide positive inputs which could be shared in future course modules within your institution’s thrust in conducting your MBA program.
One of the most important piece of constructive feedback I have given to the applicant was when he consistently assumed a professional stance in meeting diverse challenges in the work place and still, despite the pressures of work, he maintained his exemplary conduct and behavior. To this, I commended his consistency in exuding a disciplined and cordial manner of leading his team. Surprisingly, he reacted with humility and appreciated my commendation with similar acknowledgement that he would not have done his work without the collaboration of all workers and leaders, including me.
