'Radioactive' is a half-hour mini-series that shows the life of a radio station. The main characters are in their mid-20's, so the targeted audience is not only teenagers but adults too. In each episode we see the background of one of the characters as well as the development of the main plot. The cast should be diversed so that anyone can relate to one character or another on different levels. The main plot is based on the humour-filled situations involving the producer of the station. Some of the characters live together, even though they can not stand each other. Some of them care a lot about the radio station and they are trying to get new ideas how to improve it constantly. The main idea is to show how sometimes absurd tasks given by the producer are being handled by the main characters.
THE MAIN CHARACTERS:
JACK – 26-YEARS OLD
Jack has been working for the 'Radioactive' for over 3 years now. He does not know how to relax. He lives with Michael and John and his girlfirend in the apartment near the station. He is the first one to come in the morning and the last one to leave the office. Constantly is looking for new ideas but mostly they are turned down. Jack is very energetic, takes care of his health and always gives advice to everybody. However, he is not usually listened to because he manages to always talk about himself. Thinks he is a lone wolf but couple of situations in the series show that without his mates and friends he would not get very far.
MICHAEL – 23-YEARS OLD
Michael is a 'mystery' type of a guy. He does not show off, though he has got the looks and knows how to flirt when it benefits him. Nobody knows about him a lot, even John and they have known each other for over 6 years. Michael seems to not have exes as he was not seen with the same girl for more than one night. He has a good heart but he would never admit that. Likes to play pranks on his colleagues. Usually Michael and John are the ones who are coming up with new ideas. They also have a show called '2 for 1' late at night.
JOHN – 23-YEARS OLD
Everybody likes Johny. He knows how to talk to the people, he has bright ideas and is always up for a good laugh. He has a girlfriend and is thinking about making a proposal, but that would mean to move from their apartment where they live with Michael and Jack and he is not quite sure that is what he wants. Likes rock music and attends all of the festivals when he can. John loves life, he wants to have it all but sometimes he acts as a child. He knows that this trait of character will not get him very far so he is trying to act more mature now that he has a job and a girlfriend.
MIRANDA – 25-YEARS OLD
Miranda has a show every day at 8 pm, called ‘Time is Up’ with a co-host Peter. They have a wonderful chemistry based on the love-hate relationship. Miranda has been working very hard to get where she is now, she cares about the radio station but mostly she is worried about her future. She is going on the blind dates, her friends are trying to set her up with their friends. Miranda thinks that she spent too much time on her job and now she will never find her soul mate. Those thoughts are imposed by her parents. Miranda does not know how to loosen up a bit. She resembles Jack a bit, though she would never admit that.
PETER – 27-YEARS OLD
Being one of the best hosts on the station. Peter is funny, witty and smart. He is in love with Miranda and he is equally afraid of telling her that and hearing ‘no’ and of seeing her meeting a new guy and falling in love with him. He is always eating something and he is an ordinary goofball. However, he reads a lot and can keep the conversation going on almost any subject. He does not like sports, prefers going to the theatre. He jokes about himself a lot and has a turtle at home.
MOLLY – 24-YEARS OLD
Molly works as an electrician on the radio station. Being a tiny girl, she is frequently considered to be not so good at her job. But she always proves everybody wrong. She knows how good she is and she is not afraid to talk about that. She is friends with almost everybody, except for Jack as he always has favors to ask or advice to give. She has a Vespa and a lot of hipster-looking friends. She dreams about opening a small coffeshop and she is trying to save some money for that dream. But with the always breaking scooter she owes more than she has.
MAX – 30-YEARS OLDMax is the infamous producer of the station. Even though there is a big boss ‘above’ him, until the call from him, Max is giving all of the instructions. Because of a higher position, he does not have close friends but they still all go to the bar couple times per month and as it is common for the offices, they all gossip in the smoking area. Has couple of offers from other companies, so he keeps Jack near him as he wants him to be the new producer.
KATHY – 21-YEARS OLD
Max’s secretary, still studies in the college and desperately wants to be a host and to have her own show. She is very ambitious, clever, beautiful. A lot of men tried to get her attention but Kathy is very focused on achieving her goals. Kathy knows everything about her colleagues and she knows how to use that information. She has some feelings for Max (what a cliché), but she will never admit it and she knows that there is no future. Kathy is a very tough girl but she has a moral code and her principles.
The audience is getting acquainted with the characters. The prime time show hosted by Miranda and Peter is on air. Miranda has a date after, so she is putting her make up on while presenting the songs. Peter is getting more and more jumpy as he still has not told about his feelings. In the meantime, Michael, John and Jack are in the meeting with Max. He got the call from the big boss asking to promote one of his business brands as well as to create a new show. He wants to see that the radio station is implementing something new and not only staying on the same level. Max has got the job offers but he did not tell anybody, he just decided to keep Jack closer so he can leave him instead of himself. Meeting is full with laughter as Michael and John are trying to bring some humor in the situation as they need to create a new show in the matter of hours.
THE SUFFERING AND DAMNED
The struggles of producing a new show are shown as well as some personal conversations between Michael and John. John’s girlfriend had enough of not seeing him because of different schedules. He is tired of having a night show, too. Michael suggests to talk to Max but John is hesitant something can be done here and maybe the best thing is to quit and look for a new job. Kathy accidentally heard them talking and decided to talk to Max about John. Jack is getting more and more nervous as the night passes. He feels pressure from Max and he can not let him down. Meanwhile, on the other side of the city Miranda is having the worst date of her life and sends a desperate text message to Peter to pick her up.
THAT SIDE OF PARADISE
Almost everybody slept in the office and early next morning they are still brainstorming. Not realizing it, while talking to Molly Jack is giving everybody the idea for the show. While Michael and John are making up names for it, Kathy subtly tells Max about John’s concerns. Max thinks that everything works out perfectly as he now knows what changes need to be done. Peter picked up Miranda as she asked him and they spent the rest of the night and all morning talking. They discovered they had more common interests than they thought and they laughed at all of the horrible experiences with blind dates. They fell asleep and forgot to set up the alarm.
THUNDER IS THE NIGHT
Miranda is known to be late but Peter had never missed the start of the show so everybody starts panicking when they did not arrive on time. Also, a new show ‘Marathon’ starts right after ‘Time is up’ so there should be no delay. ‘Marathon’ is a show where the music bands play live either in the studio on radio station or where it is convenient for them and it is streaming live on air. This day they all play to support kids from the nearest school, because they went on a holiday and were deceived by the hosts. Now children do not have where to live and to bring attention to the situation, ‘Radioactive’ dedicates the first show of ‘Marathon’ to them. Everybody starts panicking as the time for ‘Time is up’ comes. Miranda and Peter do not pick up their phones, Michael and John went home to change clothes and prepare for the ‘Marathon’. Max decides that there is no time to think twice and lets Molly and Kathy start the show.
THE GREAT MARATHON
Kathy and Molly are hosting the show and because of the adrenaline, they feel confident and everything goes smoothly. Jack comes to the station and starts panicking until Max reassures that all is good. They start checking everything for the ‘Marathon’. In the meantime, Miranda and Peter wake up and are shocked that they missed the show. They start laughing and Peter finally admits that he likes her and asks her out. She accepts the offer and they decide to ditch the work for today completely and go for a walk to enjoy the views of the night city. Michael and John come to the radio station and they congratulate Kathy and Molly on doing a great job. The ‘Marathon’ goes without a hitch. Max invites everybody for the next day’s celebration.
THE LAST EXECUTIVE
The party does not really look like a party as it takes place at 4 pm in the small restaurant near the radio station because later everybody has a show. Max makes a speech of how proud he is that he knows all of them and how proud he is of them. He talks about each of them and in the end he drops a bomb about him leaving the ‘Radioactive’. He says that it is not official yet and that they are the first to know. He also mentions the changes he wants to see in the office. He talks about Jack and his potential and that he knows that Jack would make an amazing producer. Max congratulates Peter on getting himself together and asking Miranda out. Max asks for a round of applause for Kathy and Molly as they are the new hosts for the weekly ‘Marathon’. John will take Jack’s place and Michael will now have to be the only host for the ‘2 for 1’ show, which they obviously have to rename into ‘1 for 2’. The whole celebration is accompanied by the laughter, happy tears and music.
