The UMKC Health Career Fair featured many health care organizations and career opportunities. The Dream Works specializes in Home health, social services and therapy support. They were hiring for health workers to care for aging and disabled people. The duties included housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, shopping assistance and community integration. There were many open positions – like Personal Care Attendant, Direct Support Staff, Certified Nursing Assistant and Transitional Living Specialist.
The second company I met was Kingswood Senior Living Community. Kingswood runs a Health and Rehabilitation Center in Kansas and takes care of in-patient and outpatient needs. Kingswood was offering many positions – Part time or Full time, Certified Nursing Assistants for health care and rehab with 8 hour shifts with weekend rotation, from 2.30 pm to 10.30 pm. Certified Nursing Assistants for assisted living, 8 hour shifts starting at 6 am, with a preference for CPR/First Aide certification. Part time Dietary Aides and Servers; everyday 4 pm to 8 pm including weekends and holidays. Part time Driver with CDL – A, B, C and licensed to drive small buses. Housekeepers, Registered Nurse for 12 hour shifts, Security Officer for weekend nights, Receptionist and Sales counselor were the other available positions from Kingswood.
The third company was Heartland – which is a behavioral health service for children, since 100 years. Their mission is to care for children with mental, behavioral or emotional disorders. They were offering jobs for Registered Nurses – for psychiatric care of children and adolescents; 12 hour shifts from 7 am to 7 pm and vice versa. The other two positions were for Licensed Practical Nurses and Behavioral Health Specialists.
Unfortunately, since I am an international student, I am not authorized to work for any of them; but they did offer some volunteering opportunities, which are worth considering.
