The Milgram obedience study video shows a set of psychological tests administered to several people that measured their willingness to obey a figure in authority in order to conduct activities which according to them was not well with their conscience. The experiment involved one subject administering electric shock to an actor subject each time they got a question wrong. The level of electric shock kept increasing as the subject kept failing to answer correctly. As the levels kept increasing, the subjects administering the shocks had conflicting opinions on whether to continue with the experiment or to stop due to the pain that was inflicted on the other subject. Some of the subjects dejected to the continual administration of the shock yet continued at the persuasion of the professor that the experiment required them to continue till the end. As is depicted, even though the test subject administering the shock was in conflict with themselves they went back to the administration to fulfill the professor’s demand. This level of obedience to an authority figure can be leveled to a coach to the players in the field. The players are with the belief that the coach is having their best interest at heart and despite the fact they may be having injuries, they may be convinced to continue as it is the essence of the sport. Considering the objectivity of the game, the players will always think that the more they push, the better they become, and even if faced with an injury, the fact that the coach says to continue, then the players are obliged to go on. According to the Milgram experiment, the point was to see whether the “teacher” would call a stop to the test or they would obey the professor and inflict extremely painful shocks in belief that they are advancing science. It is such a similar belief that sportsmen have. To push on , with the belief that the coach is advancing their career towards greatness. This has commonly left many sportsmen at a precarious position when faced with injury or to obey their trainers.
