Food deserts are those areas within cities where the local population has no or little access to fresh fruits and healthy vegetables. There is evidence that the food desert areas are more prevalent in the lower income neighborhoods. Lack of healthy foods leads to obesity and health ailments such as heart disease and diabetes. Vitamins are essential organic nutrients required in minute amounts for the body's optimal functioning. They could be water soluble or fat soluble.
