Events that led to the influx of refugees in Turkey
The Arab Spring that was experienced in African countries like Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, inspired the protest against President Bashar Hafez al-Assad’s government in March 2011. The government, in response, sent its forces to contain the protest, and as a result, Syria plunged into civil war (Carpenter 2).
