Intersection of technology and entertainment
Technology and entertainment have intersected and the intersection is seen to bring benefits and problems at the same time. One area in which technology has intersected with entertainment is in the downloading of the music from the internet. This intersection has benefits and yet at the same time there are concerns about the effect that this intersection has brought to the entertainment industry. The technology factor has been seen to bring copyright and illegal access of music files on the internet. This is something that the music industry has been fighting. This trend is because of the fact that there have been developments on the internet and on how the users are able to access music clips over the internet. This trend has brought issues with the trends and the business component of the music industry.
Over time, the musicians have benefited from the sale of compact discs music cassettes to their fans. This was considered and seen to be a benefit for most of musicians. With the development of the internet, there have been changes in the way fans can access the music files. There is no longer a need to attend music presentations to access the sale of the music recordings; this can be done over the internet. This has been an issue of concern for many musicians. One concern is that there is no benefit that small musicians get from the views of the clients. This is because most musicians are not popular enough to attract corporate ads over the internet. This is one of the ways in which current artistes have been seen to make money. One of the controversies is that not all the musicians will make money from this new method. It is only the musicians who are popular and with a lot of fans who make money from this new method. It is making it difficult for new musicians to make money from the use of this new technology.
One advantage with the use of this technology for the consumers is that there will be a new platform and use of accessing content. With the use of this technology, there will be a better way in which consumers will access quality clips which have not been pirated. With the accessibility of an internet connection, one can find the clips that are available from the internet. With the use of the internet and the open interconnectivity of different users, it is now possible to access media content. In the traditional method of getting content from the internet, one had to access the content from the sale of music tapes. The internet has enhanced the access of entertainment content. Technology has enhanced the development of this access platform.
Another advantage of the use of this technology is that piracy will be eradicated with the sale of the content on the internet. With the use of this technology, it is important to understand that the use of this technology will make it easier to sell original content and music pirates will have little to benefit. The industry will reward the people who have worked hard to get what they have wanted to be rewarded. One of the vices of the music industry is piracy. This has negatively impacted on the profitability that musicians get from music. This has been an issue of concern for many decades. The use of technology has been the platform where the struggle to get access to this content has been progressing.
There are disadvantages that technology has brought in the music industry. This is where there are sites which do not provide any reruns to the musicians. One of the sites that musicians get paid from the file downloads of their content is with the use of YouTube and Napster. The use of these two reputable sites will bring benefits to the musicians. There are, however, sites that users will use to get the music files. Such unofficial sites do not make any returns to the users of the websites. There is a need to ensure that blogs and private pages do not get access to the music files because the musicians will not benefit from the use these sites (Olson et al., 63).
Another disadvantage is that the use of this technology of downloading of music files from YouTube and other reputable sites do not work for most new and unpopular musicians. This will prove to be hard for the new starters as they have to ensure that they get to be known in the industry first before getting to benefit from the use of this technology.
In conclusion, there are mixed concerns of the use of technology in the entertainment industry as there are benefits and disadvantages that this intersection brings. There are concerns about the use technology and how it should be enhanced so that there are benefits and improvement of the industry. This is an aspect that is bringing issues. The intersection of technology and entertainment is seen to be bringing more benefits to the users than with the artistes. This is a debate that continues to raise issues with many entertainment experts.
