This paper will reflect if the United States Patriot Act adequately balances people rights with national security. It will reflect over cons and pros with this act. It will explain how the safety and security and well-being of America and America citizens are because of the United States Patriot Act. It will explain about sacrifice needed and why this is needed. Last it will explain why this is important.
The US Patriot Act was signed into law after 911 Tragedy. This act entails for law enforcement officials the ability to spy for the purpose of possible terrorist attack. This has lead to countless people being against this even the present conditions that the economy and the world have been facing.
While it was not labeled a tragedy, the Boston Marathon still caused a misfortune of destruction in it paths. A tragedy that possible could be help with the aid of easy dropping. The question becomes where does the line be drawn between what is good and what is bad.
The book, Invasion by Michelle Maklin was published in the year of 2002. This book today is still considered one of the most important criminal justice books. This book Malkin discusses in depth where the line should be drawn and the line should be not drawn. Malkin is a Republican. Regardless of her political side, the information in this book is enlightenment to the importance of the need for better security of America, the Patriot Act and other factors.
In this book, Malkin mentions about the borders that are not kept secured and how easy a person can get through the borders. She also mentions how the concern with the Vista being able to expire and to be able to remain unnoticed. This is where it requires outside thinking. It requires that if there was surveillance ordered, perhaps these people would have been noticed and we can become aware they have expired vistas and other problems. This is not trying to play a game of judgment. This is a matter of providing security and safety to America.
When providing safety to America, scarifies are going to have been made. Especially after the 911 Misfortunate and the recent shooting at the Los Angeles airport. While this shooting was not terrorist related, it shows how despite the warnings of the importance of providing protection and security after 911, tragedy can happen again. No one wants to go through another tragedy like that. That is where the sacrifices of individuals need to come into play.
America citizens need to realize that privacy is good. We need to value and trust that. We also need to understand when to put our priority of the safety of our nation first. We should not have more blood share or another innocent child or another law enforcement or fireman dying due to terrorist acts. We have to be willing to sacrifice some of other privacy to help provide safety of America. When 911 happened, it changed forever the days of our safety, our country, and so many other aspects. We no longer can go greet a family member by the gate of the plane because of 911. We have tripled the security to board a plane because of 911. We have tighter restriction on what is allowed in a plane because of 911. Again, this is part of making sacrifices.
This would be the time that people would need to remember the words of one of the greatest presidents, JKF. JFK stated, ““Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” JFK also stated, ““The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.” JFK was a man of integrity. He was a man of honor. We needed to remember our strong heroes, especially war heroes like him, during times like this.
The Patriot Act was signed by former President Bush Jr. We now have a new president and much has changed in our time. There have been strong allegations and in some cases, even proof that the patriot act was abused. When this happens, it causes people to lose trust in the leadership. Some of the recent situations where of NSA spying on people for no logical reason and journalists being spied on for no logical reasons. Again, this is an issue of abusing the trust and importance of the purpose of the Patriot Act. This is why we need to have a strong leadership during this time. Without a strong leadership, it can leave cracks in the foundations and cause the foundations to break.
This leads to what should be done to help save the foundation when it breaks. Again, it goes back to where be the line is drawn. This is a touchy subject for it involves people to be aware and comfortable with the concept, of getting protection by any means necessary. For a lot of individuals regardless if criminal commits heinous acts, these people feel that these criminals should still be given ethical and moral treatment. The question comes up again on where to draw the line. With the Boston Marathon, it was alleged that the brothers had plans to attack other parts of America at different dates. Again, this tragedy was not classified as a terrorist act.
If torture of these brothers or the terrorist from 911 could prevent another terrorist attack, the rudimentary question is it worth it? For the welfare and safety of America, it is best to put this matter in the hands of our government. We need to hold true to the old wise tale that ignorance is bliss. While we do not want someone to die for no reason, we want to be safe. Most importantly, we want to keep this country safe for our children. Sadly the school shootings in schools have escalated over the past several years. While these shootings have never been terrorists related, it is still the loss of an innocent child life. Regardless of the situations, we need to have people understand the importance of Patriot Act. This will also be a tricky slope to achieve with the current events that are happening in America and our world. It will be a tricky slope for there will always be people considering the morals of criminals. While it not right to judge nor kill nor harm anyone, it is a measure of providing safety. Safety can only be accomplished by the means of eavesdropping. This is why people need to remember about making sacrifices for our society has changed. We need to make sacrifices ensure the welfare of America. We need a strong leadership to strengthen this process. Easy dropping is a violation of privacy, yet it more of a sacrifice to ensure protection for America.
