Introduction

The primary objective of this term paper is to examine the intended and unintended consequences of the Split Roll taxes in California. Also, the term paper will address how commercial and residential property owners will bear the costs of Split Roll taxation system. Finally, I will offer alternatives to the Spilt Roll taxes and why I think they are ideal choices. I don’t support the Split Roll taxation since it would treat commercial property unfairly. Homestead exemption meant that peoples’ homes would not be taxed at a full charge although some of their households could be tax-free. In Texas, the current family exemption is $15,000, meaning that if one’s home tax is valued at $100, 000, they would only pay taxes of $85,000 (Texansforprop1.com).
