In any organization, it is important to look out for the processes and the employees so as to improve the productivity levels. The top level management formulates the objectives and decides upon the targets, which the middle level and lower level employees need to fulfill it. However, in the process of fulfilling these objectives, it is important to look out for the motivation level of employees, the hostile environment of the organization, and the performance of the team. This paper shall take into consideration these parameters for analyzing Hooters Inc. and try to analyze them.
- Motivation theory
Motivation theory talks about the driving forces of motivation for the employees within a given organization. It is important to constantly motivate the employees through several means and modes, in order to achieve better productivity levels. In addition, there is also a need to provide equal opportunities to each of the employees within the organization. Now, looking out for the Hooters, it was observed that, certain store level managers were directly helping the ground staff in learning the processes and operational activities.
On the other hand, there were managers who were exploiting the workers and were not at all motivating them in their work. Under such circumstances, it is the responsibility of the top-level management to look out for the motivation and job satisfaction levels of the employees. They need to reward some of the best performers so that rest others can get motivated to do similar work. The organization should provide normal working hours, and should not exploit the ground staff by making them work for more than the normal working hours. There should be certain policies regarding employee care and safety that will improve the motivation of these employees.
- Hostile environment
Hostile environment in any organization is created due to unfriendly atmosphere, lack of support and cooperation, regular conflicts between the employees, and due to lack of management by the team leader or a supervisor in the respective department. As far as Hooters Inc. is considered, we did not find any hostile environment existing at the top level as well as the bottom level. However, there was an example of a manager who was exploiting his workers; but still there were other store managers that completely supported their teams. The organization should look out for a strategic approach that will help in improving the hostile environment within the organization.
- Team work
Team work helps in proper planning, implementing, and analyzing the final outputs. The work gets divided, and each of the employees receives work of his ability. The top level management formulates team in order to save time, costs, and money in each of their operational activity. In the given situation of Hooters, we find different teams for cooking, for cleaning, and for serving. They divide their entire work, which helps in increasing the efficiency levels of the employees. It will also boost the morale and motivation of the employees, which in turn shall improve the productivity levels.
For any organization to achieve its objectives, requires to work upon its employees. They need to be well-trained and well-motivated so as to ensure the completion of these objectives. In addition, the top- and middle-level management requires preventing the hostile environment within the organization. And, finally in order to improve efficiency of the employees, the leaders and supervisors of the organization need to formulate teams and delegate work responsibilities accordingly. Hooters in this case have been performing well from the teamwork perspective. They need to improve the motivation levels of their employees. They even need to work upon certain conflicting issues, in order to prevent a hostile environment within the organization.
