The Tokohuma earthquake in Japan occurred in 2011 on March. It occurred in the Pacific Ocean where it caused a huge tsunami that was very devastating. The earthquake was the largest ever recorded in Japan and the fourth largest in the world. It produced a tsunami of sixteen metres high. The book, Year of the Elephant (1989) was written by Leila Abouzeid and is a strong reminder of the way of Moroccan women before independence. The book also goes on to explain how Moroccan independence brought about changes in the lives of women.
