Advertisements are important for manufacturing and processing companies. Through advertisements, these companies are able to make their products popular with the market and also ensure that more potential customers are wooed to buy their products. Advertisements also help in making the customers aware of the product’s strength, uses, ingredients and advantages. Therefore, advertisements play a major role in marketing any kind of product because it helps to attract new clients as well as maintaining the existing ones.
In the advertisement of a drink called bud light, the advertisers use a funny approach to advertise the drink. The advertisement starts when a man named Louis is reading an adult magazine while taking Bud Light. When Louis opens a new page and finds a picture of a naked woman, he gets impressed and swings his feet and accidentally knocks his bottle of Bud Light down. He quickly puts up the bottle to stop the drink from spilling. However, some of the drink is on the magazine. Trying not to waste any drop of the drink, Louis carefully pours the drink on the magazine back to the bottle. He cannot resist the temptation of licking the droplets of the drink left on the magazine. Incidentally, as he licks the drink from the page where the picture of a naked woman is, a young woman and an elderly one walk in. the ladies assume he was fantasizing when licking the picture; Louis is left humiliated.
The advertisement has a strong sales pitch that proposes that the drink is very sweet and refreshing in every drop. Any drop of the drink that flows away would be entirely a big loss hence; individuals would do anything, however crazy it is, to ensure they consume every drop of the drink. In the advertisement’s case, Louis licks the drops of the drink from a page with a picture of a naked woman, something that ends up embarrassing him. The advertisement’s pitch emphasizes on the drink’s taste and how much the customers like it.
The audience for this advertisement is particularly adult men. This can be told from the advertisement’s context. In the advertisement, Louis is an adult who seems middle aged. He seems to be someone who likes sports because there is a commentating voice in the background either on radio or television. The fact that Louis is reading an adult magazine implies that the drink is specifically meant for adults. The audience of the advertisement can be said to be men because the ladies in the advertisement are not seen drinking it.
The assumptions in this advertisement are that the drink does not flow off a book or get absorbed into the papers of the magazine. Furthermore, it is assumed that the ladies in the advertisement do not take the drink. It is also assumed that the drink has a great taste that can make anyone try all possible means to have a taste of every drop in the bottle. These assumptions matter in different ways. The ladies not taking the drink implies that the drink is for men. Then the assumption as to why people do all they can to drink every drop helps in proving that the drink has a great taste and is of great quality. Therefore, it possible to say that Bud Light is a great drink with the best taste and quality, however, it is not possible to tell from this video whether the drink is quality as advertised.
