A social hypothesis is am idea considered a norm among a given social group. By terming something as socially, focus is placed on its dependence on contingent variables of the social self rather than the inherent qualities it possesses.
The truth can be known through knowledge. Knowledge is the certainty of facts that have been proven over time and have come to be accepted as a certainty; that they will not change over time. Knowledge and truth go hand in hand. However, should the truth be changing periodically, it remains false until proven conclusive.
The Egyptians and Babylonians were essentially a polytheistic people with only religious experts holding sway over the knowledge that would be taught to individuals. Their method was, in fact, a method of ensuring their power by attributing natural phenomena to the gods they served. . This had the effect of limiting their knowledge because further study was discouraged by the premise of the gods’ work should not be questioned by mortals.
The Ionians, on the other hand, had established rational thought, and this had dominated the minds of intellectuals and academics allowing for deep insights and research into geography, biology and the study of the universe. This method of rational thought greatly increased their knowledge of the world since there was no attribution of the natural element to deities that were the sole fiction of human minds.
Ionians are indeed responsible for the start of the dominant intellectual structure of western thought since their rationality of thought had a tremendous effect on the culture of the Greeks and was summarily adopted. Western thought is based on the intellectuals and philosophers of Greece.
