I chose this particular topic for my research paper because the South Caucasus is a region that has had the misfortune of seeing inter-ethnic issues played out in different stages of conflict - both latent and violent, and therefore both conflict prevention and conflict resolution/transformation interventions have been required. Georgia's Armenian inhabited area – Samtskhe-Javakheti – is a case of the former. Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh and also the Georgian-Russian-Ossetian war represent the latter.
