In essence, flex-time allows workers to set the appropriate starting and finishing times as they go about fulfilling their duties. In addition to giving employees more control over their work schedules, flex-time also enables them to balance their work and life more efficiently. The direct benefit of this approach is therefore reduced stress and hence enhanced productivity. Additionally, the employees are able to set their working times to correspond with their personal readiness for each task and obligation therefore maximizing efficiency.
A company’s human resources are arguably its most important assets. Managers within organizations, especially human resource managers, are therefore advised to take into consideration the general wellbeing of their members of staff as a means of enhancing productivity and thus expanding the company’s bottom line. One of the ways in which this can be achieved is through improved working conditions, including favorable working schedules aligned to match clear sets of job deliverables. For instance, employers can design realistic and implementable work plans around which their employees can then structure their respective tasks, duties and responsibilities.
As much as managers have moved towards more flexible working schedules for their employees, they still focus on matching people’s core competencies with the overall organizational objectives. This means that for the aforementioned flex-time program to work effectively, it must also match the needs of the employees with the preset organizational goals and objectives. Similarly, the program must also be evaluated frequently to ensure that all its modalities are updated when necessary so as to reflect any internal or external changes.
