I intend to research and write about the area of fast food products. In essence, I intend to concentrate on the health effects of the products they offer to the society. I shall be considering the effects these products have both in the long and short term. I am motivated by the recent occurrences where young children have sought to sue the fast foods and particularly MacDonald’s for their products. This should be considered from a wider perspective. It is should be canvassed in the context of overall health care costs incurred by government, the ethical premise of the products and lastly the legal repercussions that the fast foods expose themselves to by virtue of their activities.
In this research, I intend to learn a number of issues. Foremost, I need to discover the demarcation between what is legal and what is moral. From the look of things, the businesses only endeavor to dispense the legalities and leave out the morality. I appreciate the difficulty in assessing what is moral for the reason that the concept is relative. However, there are universal morals and in this context, fast foods need to tore the line. I would equally be evaluating the aspect of government role in society especially in relation to consumerism. It is necessary that government agencies such as the Food and Drug Agency know what role they play in society and what they as government representatives need to do to protect society from likely ills. In fact, within the same context, I shall be discussing and researching on the extent to which government is proactive in achieving the needs of the society.
I anticipate having an appreciation on how the legal provisions in the business industry are regulated. Who exactly sees to it that they are solved and whether the same regulations meet the protections they are intended to safeguard. Finally, I would want to appreciate the concept of obesity in relation to government policy on public health. Should it be the government responsibility to see to it that persons do not consume what affects their health even if the same regulation amounts to infringement of rights to choice? These are some of the critical questions I shall be addressing in my research paper. Moving forward, I also intend to analyze where the compromise should be placed when interests of different parties compete in a market that is supposed to be under the free enterprise system.
The methodologies that I intend to approach my work with entail due consideration of the available resources. I intend to focus on the material available in the internet, various publications and books in the library, primary sources such as people on the streets and the fast foods themselves. I also do believe my instructor shall provide the much needed guidance in relation to the best approach that is befitting for this paper. I would also like to consult government authorities such as statutes that inform consumer law and protection. Without having to canvass so much beyond the scope of this paper, I equally intend to consider some of the glaring statistics within the area of study. These include matters such as the alternatives available for persons who prefer to eat healthier diets. It should, however, be appreciated that I do not intend to castigate any parties in the market for the American system remains a free enterprise dictated by freedom of choice.
