This paper will reflect over the learning strategies in education with students with disabilities. The will reflect over student that have learning disabilities. It will also reflect over student that have disabilities because of autism. The reason for this is because, in several cases, children with learning disabilities are assumed to have autism. This might sound surprising to some people, but it has happened. This is why this will this paper will reflect over the need for the qualifications for teachers, teacher aids, tutors and the testing to decide if a child has a disability. These are two separate disabilities, but they have some likenesses that will be reflected in this paper. It will have few rudimentary questions to help enchained the points. This paper will also reflect over stories of children with children with disabilities. These stories are being reflected to help understand the situation better. Regardless of their disabilities, all can read and explore the world of books. This paper will show examples of this. Last, throughout this paper it will reflect why this is important.
The joy of reading is an experience like no other. Majority of children learn the love of reading from their parents when they are small children and are read to at night. Majority of these parents encourage their children to continue to read while they are growing up. When having a disability, regardless if it is learning disability or autism, it can be a challenge.
The challenges for both of these disabilities are the countless frustrations of hours put into trying to pronounce the words and reading compression. That is where the help of electronic dictionaries, online dictionaries, pronunciations software, etc can be helpful for the children. This is also helpful for it will build the children vocabulary by learning the pronunciations of words.
If there is not positive encouragement during this process, it can severally affect children with disabilities to want to continue. They would start seeing learning as hard and unimaginable concept. Those concepts need to be banished. There are countless ways to help with this challenge.
One-way to help with this challenge is through computer and technology related projects related to learning. The most popular product for children that is well known and has noble records is Leap Frog. Leap Frog offers different varieties of learning devices to engage the children learning. Games are very popular method for learning.
Games that provided for the child to critically think are always strongly recommended. Game can be used for children with learning disabilities and autism. It would require people teaching the game to have great patience and understanding of children with these disabilities. There would be some games that might require modification. A strong level of motivation has to be encouraged. It would be recommended to start these children with disabilities to learn games with students like them. That way they can build their confidence while learning the games.
The games for children to learn to start would probably be board or card games. Once these games are master, they can move up to other levels of games. A popular learning game is Magic the Gathering. While that game can be a challenge to learn for children with disabilities, there has been children with disabilities learn this game. This game provides the critical thinking for strategy and basic math skills.
The other games for strategies are classical games like chess, word puzzle, and crosswords. They help with the memory. Children with disabilities will always have to do extra learning to gain success for a dream they perform. Learning is fun no matter the challenge. Again, this is where constant motivation is needed.
Motivation for children with disabilities with autism requires learning about knowing autism children. There are countless autism children that do not like to be approach by strangers. It takes time to build a relationship before they can be open with the individual. Also, there are the types of children with autism that required musical types of teaching.
Teaching with visual aids is another method that can be helpful for children with adults with disabilities. Visual aids can provide helpful enhance learning concepts. That way a child can see how the learning steps works. This can be done through diagrams, charts, pictures, Microsoft PowerPoint, or other visual concepts. They have to be advised that using visual aids do not make them less of a person. Visual aids can also be found in software programs. Visual aids can also be through arts, as well. They need to be encouraged to learn by whatever method works best for them.
Concepts to help learning also can be used in the forms with animals. They have programs that allowed a child to read with a dog that is train for this program. These dogs are used for all children. Children with disabilities would benefit more with this program. The reason is that dogs have the ability to provide comfort and love. Again, when children with disabilities are facing harder challenges when reading, the more motivation they can receive, the better it can help with their learning foundation.
The abilities that children with learning disabilities and autism disabilities can be endless. While it recommended teaching the child to make reality goals, they should be aware of those who went the distance. This can be done through the famous people with who have a disability that have reached success. People like Agatha Christine that still is one of the famous mystery authors. She had learning disabilities, but that did not stop her from creating her masterpieces. There was also Helen Keller that created masterpieces.
There are ordinary people that also created masterpieces. These are students with learning disabilities that have gone to college and received their Bachelor degree. There are countless students with learning disabilities that have Bachelor degrees and their master’s degrees or in the process of their master degree. There are students with Bachelor Degree that have teaching certification, accounting certification and there nurse degrees. This is why that while students with disabilities are told to reach realistic goals; they also need to be informed that they can go further. They just have to be willing to work regardless of days of dark storms.
The learning assignments for students with disabilities need to be done in clear and concise method. Students with learning disabilities can each have their different way of learning and there area of challenge. Some students with learning difficulties have problems composing essays. Students with learning disabilities might need to have dictionaries or thesauruses when doing their tests. They might have to have their time period for their test extended. There also might be a need for audio.
The qualifications of teachers are extremely important. Principals needed to ensure that special education teacher certifications are kept update. Any special education teacher that is reported for any type of abuse need to be evaluated and not brush off. Teaching special education children requires extreme patience. If children with disabilities need to ask questions, they needed to be motivated to keep asking questions. This can be a stressful job like any job.
When teachers of special education started to become burn out, we need to have a program in place for the teachers. The education system is getting weak. We need to encourage teachers to continue in this path especially special education teachers.
If there are good benefits packages for teachers provided by the federal government, it will extremely help our educational system. They have programs now where if teachers work in certain cites for a certain period, they can receive certain benefits that would include parts of their loans being paid off.
There also can be packages for the teachers’ assistants who help the special educations teachers. The teacher assistants need to have the qualifications to teach the children through proper and formal education degrees and certifications. A lot of schools will accept teaching aids with just associate degree, with children with special education; there are more qualifications that are needed.
The qualifications are also needed when diagnosing the student with learning disabilities or autism. The doctors or the professional staff needed to be kept update on the medical news. It should not be assumed that because they are in the field, they are kept updated. The qualifications should also extend to the tutors.
They should get tutors for special education students that have experience with these students. Tutors are assumed to be helpful. There are countless horror stories from children with learning disability about having tutors who were not familiar with their disabilities. This resulted in less patience during the tutoring session. This lead to the students feeling less about themselves.
Again, this is why motivation is heavily repeated. All types of actives that would include positive reinforcements and learning would benefits from this. The other horror stories of children with learning disabilities are the lack of proper support not only with their teachers, but with their family and their advisors. When these students have negative experience in a circle, it increases their chances of them for not to learn and not to reach the stars. The advisors needed to be trained and kept updated with students with learning disabilities.
There are countless stories of children with learning disabilities who had advisors in high school that did not believe they accomplish college because of their disabilities. There are horror stories of advisors that use cruel words toward the children who are now young adults, and told them they should be lucky if they get can get a manager job at a local grocery store. There are horror stories of advisors telling these children not even to apply for college. It will be a waste of their time. Is this the type of role model we want for children? How does this affect the children feelings?
This can also lead to anger for countless students with disabilities. This does not lead to anger for all students with disabilities. Regardless, this anger can be dangerous. It can cause the students to stop learning and start doing bad behaviors. It can lead to children having low self esteem. Children having low esteem are never healthy. They can start doing drugs, drinking or other unhealthy behavior.
That is why we must take better action to provide a healthier education environment for children with learning disabilities and autism disabilities. They need to be nourished and loved. Through this strong motivation, they can reach for the tips for of the mountains. They can reach their dreams. Dreams will take hard work, but hard work is good. Through hard work, they will better appreciate the success they achieved. They can go back and shared their stories of success and help other students with a disability reach to success. Regardless, if the learning is done through visual aids, audio, art, computer or any other material, it the goal of learning; Learning is a goal that children with learning disabilities can achieve. The fun of reading and education can be achieved with students of learning disabilities and autism.
