After the military junta lost power in the late 1980’s, Argentina went through a burgeoning period where it expanded its economy in the middle of the 1990’s and attracted several investors who poured money into the country at highly favourable interest rates which were clearly unsustainable in the long run. This eventually led to a collapse of the banking system and there eventually was a huge run on the banks which resulted in several thousands of investors losing their money and ending up with nothing.
