On the evening of December 4, 2015 I attended the live concert performance hosted by Master Showman, Composer and world-renowned violinist, Andre Rieu. The concert even was held at the “3 Arena” (23,000 capacity) in Dublin, Ireland. Andre Rieu has been recognized on many occasions as one of classical music’s greatest performer, conductors, and popularisers. During the entire duration of the classical performance, Rieu was immensely successful in retaining (especially the young generation or non-classical enthusiasts), the attention of the audience by intermissive humour, storytelling, host-to-audience conversation, and a whole lot of promotive dancing/singing along. Almost all classic songs are about love. Since ancient times, artists have endeavored to write songs of love to stir the heart. Their works have ranged from the saccharine and sappy to the truly moving. In spite of the artists’ varied levels of accomplishment and artistic merits, each of these songs relies on certain tropes and exhibits certain qualities that are endemic to the “love song” genre. In all quintessential love songs, three tenets (common qualities) have stood out; simple lyrics delivered with sincerity, use of a saxophone and they are sung in moderately slow tempos.

Ancient music had very distinct styles, musical instruments and elements were easily distinguishable as the songs progressed. The following is an analysis of five songs in terms of the style, tempo, musical elements and form.

Several musical instruments as were use in the song. The sound of a trombone comes first then that of a clarinet and violin follow in unison. The sounds produced by these instruments produce a very distinct tune. When the Mamie Smith sings, several elements of music can be noted these are timbre, harmony, pitch and rhythm.
