In my department, the design department of this company we have been at the frontlines in ensuring that this companies product sustain their appeal to our customers. As an investment plan proposal is requesting for funding to expand the design department so that it can be more efficient. Furthermore, the company’s forecast predicts robust growth over the next five years, as such the design team has to expand in order to deal with the greater demands that will be made by a bigger company.
Service and Equipment Description
The process of expanding the design department will require various improvements and increases in the workplace and the team. To commence, the facilities that the design team is working from now are insufficient and cramped if the department is to expand to its optimum size. In addition, the office ware such as desks, chairs and even the computers will also require to be increased in accordance to meet the new demand.
Presently, the department’s entire workforce is comprised of 20 employees including myself the department head. The department ought to be increased to at least 40 members. With the increased members, the department can be further sub-divided with five teams that shall each specialize in the design aspect and be complimentary to each other. Such organization of the department will allow efficient functioning and faster production of the designs. The increase will reduce by more than half the time traditionally taken for generation of the specified designs.
The team will also require advanced software as compared to the present software. The present software that the members of the department have been relying on is Adobe image editing CS6 software package. However, this software is inadequate for the tasks that the department is often called to perform. As such, the Department should rely on change to TurboCAD Professional a 3-D modeling software that will enable the department to develop designs that are more precise in a shorter period.
Finally, the department will need a Molder. The molder is a machine that generates the designs or molds out the designs. Presently, the department is usually forced to lease a molder for a private party. Leasing the molder is not only unnecessary expensive for the department and the company it also poses a great security risk for the company. We are trusting another party with the designs that we shall use in our future products.
The team that shall be involved in the expansion of the department and the consequent running of it shall be comprised of handpicked individuals who have demonstrated dedication, performance and good work ethic. As mentioned earlier, the design team will be split into two for greater efficiency. The team has three tiers, the department head, the heads of each team and the team members themselves.Department Head
As a department head, I shall be in charge of the implementation of the expansion plan and the subsequent overseeing the operations of the design department. I have had ten years experience as a department head with two years at the department head of the design department.
Heads of the Teams
Each design team shall have a coordinator who shall oversee the running and operations of each design team. In addition, the duties of the coordinators of the design teams team shall include the delegation of tasks and their successful completion. The shortlisted employees for the positions are the opinion leaders who have demonstrated leadership abilities in their work.
The team members will be the existing members and the new employees. Their duties are the implementation and production of the designs that the company requires.
