Teaching is considered to be one of the noblest professions. It is also a very important one. These are the people with whom our children learn and grow up into the adults we dream they would be. They are entrusted with the future generation, with the future leaders of the world. Some say that modern education is on the road of limiting a teacher’s actions in the classroom. Children and students are said to need to learn by themselves. Was the past system flawed that we now have to change it? Let’s discuss the role of a ...
There are similarities between college and high school; for example, the students of each make their own decisions about which subjects to study. However, there are also many differences between the two types of establishment. Over all, the main difference is that a college student is expected to take a much higher level of responsibility than a high school student regarding himself and his studies.
There are similarities between high school and college. For example, in both types of establishment, a student can select the subjects wish most interest them and of which they would like to spend time ...
Transitioning from high school to college is one of the most important and unique experience in an individual’s life. The level of responsibility increases when we start college after completing high school. The work load is significantly more and the classes are harder. The expectations that our professors have from us are different from what our teachers expected from us in high school. This is when we realize that we have transitioned from secondary level education to higher education. The freshman year is a unique experience for everyone. Some people are able to adjust to the new circumstances ...
In very simple terms communication can be defined as information transmission or an exchange of ideas between parties (assuming that the message is received and fully understood). However, a more detailed definition of communication can be given with consideration to the purpose and the framework of the communication process. Although current technology level has expanded the notion of communication far beyond a face-to-face conversation, the empirical evidence has demonstrated that personal contact significantly enhances dialogue between the parties, while all the technology-driven communication means, such e-mails and phones, remain inferior compared to discussing in person.
This factor had a ...
This semester was very challenging for me. I came to New York City from Brazil and I encountered many problems that are very popular among international students. The main problem is of course language barrier. It was very hard for me to speak in front of other people. It is really frustrating when you cannot find the right words to express what you think or feel. And I was getting very upset when that happened.
This course required a lot of communication and writing and it was exactly what scared me the most because of my poor grammar and ...
The core concept in education in Great Britain is inclusion. As a result of high rates of immigration to UK, schools in Britain have had to adjust their teaching methodologies so as to satisfy the perpetual demand of students wanting to learn English as a second language. This fact is reinforced by statistics that show that there are 500,000 students taking English as a second language in the UK education system today (Barwell, 2004, p329). “The situation in Britain is referred to as EAL (English as an Additional ...
Is learning about the past pointless if the lessons are not applied to the present? This has been a point of debate by many people including a professor of ancient Roman history who supports the sentiment.
I totally agree with the professor basing on several reasons. William argues that, the past history is a great fountain of experience and practical wisdom to improve the present and as well as be able to anticipate and prepare for the future. In this regard, the past influences the present from which the future can be predicted. ...
Things happen…Indeed, they do happen when you are not waiting for them. And the worst is that bad things happen to you when you are not waiting for them at all, when you are disarmed, they like stab you into your back with a knife, like a traitor…the next feeling is devastation, despair and darkness. These three ‘Ds’ overwhelm you like a big wave and it seems that the world has collapses.
Not so long ago I’ve had these very feelings – my world stopped functioning for me. Its engines broke down and the whole system of ‘ ...
Reflection:
1. Did the teacher use Communicative Language Teaching? What did you observe which supports your answer? Yes, the teacher used Communicative Language in her teaching approach. In fact, she encouraged students to reflect on positive communication in classrooms. The students were encouraged to communicate through the English language. There were massive communicative interactions between the teacher and students. Students mainly learnt from the interactions in their classroom rather than solely relying on their teacher’s input. Students discussed ideas, and constructed meaningful solutions among themselves given the fact that they communicated and interacted freely with each other in their classroom.
2. What did you notice about teacher talk time vs. student talk time? How much were the students involved in and engaged with the lesson? For sure, the teachers’ talk time was well balanced with the instructions. The ratio of teacher to student talk time was approximately twenty five to seventy five percent and they were highly engaged in the class. Students worked in pairs and groups and they were encouraged to participate and share their opinions and enhance understanding with the rest of their classmates. When students were asked questions, the teacher provided them with clear clarifications on concepts and statements in a very appealing and respectful manner. Important still, the teacher asked questions to test student’s understanding since she transformed the classroom to be student-centered.
3. Did the warm-up effectively prepare students for the lesson? Explain. The teacher used a combination of bottoms-up and tops-down kind of approach in her teaching strategy so that students could be well prepared for the new topics. The teacher pre- trained them vocabularies and then she provided us with the background information before introducing them to their new items. Students were able to apply their schematic knowledge. Basically, she engaged them to be cognitively aware before introducing them to new areas of study. Students’ participations in games, puzzles, and various activities, familiarized made them conversant with the topics that they were trained on especially on areas like new vocabularies and grammatical structures. As time went by, they were capable of tackling new items and demonstrating their functions.
4. Do you think that the target language structures (e.g., new grammar, vocabulary, expressions) and/or skills were taught effectively? Why or why not? Yes, the target language structures and skills were taught effectively to students. Their teacher clearly wrote and illustrated everything on the board in a manner that was simple, concise and clear, for them to understand well. She drew pictures and as well used picture cards to effectively present and convey her lectures in classroom. She presented the entire content in a systematic and organized way. For real, her lectures were not overburdening us in any way since every one of them felt free and at home. Another imperative thing is that, the teacher also used interactive strategies in her communicative language in teaching instructions. She clearly demonstrated and explained the task before asking students to respond. She accorded them with sufficient time which enabled them to respond fruitfully to her questions. She also gave students plenty of time for extracurricular activities so that they could have ample time to interact with each other, re-discover and find meaning among them. The teacher also provided them with key vocabularies before she could ask them to create dialogues using the key words. She helped students to practice and exercise learned vocabularies and skills in different categories of the lesson and they were able to give their thoughts and opinions on the same subject.
5. Do you think that the teacher’s activities encouraged students to practice the target language and/or skills effectively? Yes, the teacher’s activities encourage students to practice the language target as well as skills effectively. She brought authentic materials to the classroom whereby I realized that they were enjoying themselves and at the same time they were actively participating in the activities. The students volunteered to express their thoughts and opinions through language target while participating in the classroom. Students were communicating by helping each other in finding solutions to problems. Eventually, she went around the class by randomly asking students to answer questions while students tried their best to answer them right. It was quite evident that they were effectively practicing their language skills in speaking and listening. The teacher gave sufficient information so that students could be well prepared to practice independently outside the class.
Did the teacher effectively evaluate the target language and/or skills? Explain. Sincerely speaking, the teacher evaluated the target language and the entire skills due to the fact that she understood each one of the students, their capability in proficiency level as well as their needs. I was told that that center tracked the ongoing student’s assignments on English proficiency and used ongoing students’ assessments in planning and implementation of a two hour lesson for classes. She was constantly testing their understanding by asking them challenging questions and at the same time she could be able to constantly monitor the student’s progress.
In this space, write any final comments you have about the lesson you observed (required).
Consequently, the teacher created for them a learning-friendly environment in the classrooms. She managed to control the class very well and provided them with plenty of examples for them to enable them learn the rules by themselves. She questioned them on various grounds and they immediately answered correctly. She taught them on how to interact in groups. She gave them freedom of learning independently. They were all motivated and really enjoyed whatever they were doing because she even organized a fashion show for them. She also prepared for them computers so that they could learn communication skills of learning and listening through programs like Rosetta stone language. They learnt the art of asking questions while they were also encouraged to be sensitive towards the asked questions. They became so confident that they were not even afraid of making mistakes inappropriately because they could easily remedy whatever the situation. They positively challenged each other enough and it really helped them to improve their spoken grammar. If there is one thing that that class need to do right now, is that they need to focus on reading and writing skills of language learners. They are the only skills that I did not see being applied in any of the lessons but I guess maybe it was the nature of the syllabus in that center that it only focused on oral language proficiency, conversational as well as spoken.

Good Understanding And Implementing The Clt (Communicative Language Teaching) Paradigm Essay Example
The concept of a paradigm shift gives a means of making connections between changes that are linked to communicative language teaching. There are eight changes, which fit with the communicative language teaching paradigm shift. These are the social nature of learning, the autonomy of the learner, curricular integration, diversity, focus on meaning, individual thinking skills, teachers as co-learners and alternative assessment.
Paradigm shift in education is used to represent change. A paradigm shift takes place when we see things from a different perspective. Paradigm shifts in the twentieth Century can be due to a large shift from positivism to ...
Is Online Education Just as Legitimate as Traditional Education? Why or Why not?
Abstract
This paper strongly supports the claim that online education is not as legitimate as traditional education. It makes use of three arguments which explain the superiority of traditional education over online education. In the first argument, the lack of a physical class-room environment is discussed. In the second argument, lack of motivation and its impact on students’ outcome is discussed while the last argument highlights the technological issues associated with online courses. The paper supports the presented claims with adequate data and therefore develops a strong recommendation for traditional education as compared to online education.

Importance of Teaching Pragmatics in a Foreign Language Classroom
Abstract
Pragmatics requires a well-defined environment for the learner to grasp the basic concepts of communicative aspects of the target language. The complexity and sophistication most foreign languages are characterized with, a foreign language student would take as long as 10 years to attach quality communicative meaning like the natives; this can be reduced by enhancing the quality of pragmatics for second language learners. Like every learning situation, the environment has a big role to play in the learning process. As a matter of fact, language is tied to culture and socialism and shaped by psychology; therefore, the most ...

The worldwide technological revolution has impacted many facets of global systems in a major way (Aaron 1). Technological innovation has improved the archaic traditional methodology of obtaining results. Speed and productivity have been enhanced thanks to this technological advancement. However, compared to other sectors, the education system has lagged behind in incorporating technology in the learning process (Aaron 1). The education system stands to gain a lot if it incorporates technology in the learning models. The most innovative way to do this is the gamification of the learning process. This paper aims to illustrate gamification, how it operates and ...

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of learning a new language with new characters, in particular Chinese characters, in other words, how do second language adult students acquire knowledge about orthographic characters of a new language system. While past research has shown that adult learners with no previous Chinese exposure learn more effectively by receiving explicit instructions of orthographic rules (Taft & Chung, 1999; Dunlap, Perfetti, Liu & Wu). This study focuses particularly in the semantic rules. Our results support previous results in that those learners who were given explicit instructions of semantic rules did learn more ...
- Why teaching math and Science is important in the early years?
Science and mathematics are very important for children at early ages because it offers them the basic foundation on which future learning and understanding is built one. I would like to begin by saying that, the assignment was an excellent opportunity to better understand the various research methodologies and techniques we studied, during the course of our class lectures. By developing a research draft, I was able to obtain an explicit idea about the process of conducting a research and the various concepts associated with a research process.
While preparing the draft I faced many challenges, which I overcame with the help of the data available in the text book, class lectures, and the college library. One such challenge was to find out the best ...
A teacher’s work involves many activities such as ethics. Teachers apply the code of ethics to display discipline (Kompf, 2013). A teacher’s job is an ethics-demanding job as they train the young people. The teaching profession reflects on ethics since the teacher should show an ethical example to the students. Teachers should be ethically aware of their place in the inclusion of the education trainings.
As a teacher who has taught for eight months, I have gained a lot during this period that concerns .ethics and leadership. In the course of my training, I have realized that ...
Dear Prof X
On behalf of tutors, we are honoured to explain and resolve the issues you raised on late assignment submission and make-up questions. The professor incorporated us in the ongoing reforms the subject. It is true that the existing policies on late assignment submission and make-up questions for students seem to create lapses in the overall management of our academic work. Currently, the protocol of late assignment submission and make-up question postulates that students must provide a viable reason for such act. Currently, we are trying to apply the inclusion factors for the involved parties through discussion. The forthcoming meeting ...
- Describe a situation where a Goodness-of-Fit Test could be used
We know, that chi-square goodness-of-fit test is a non-parametric test which helps us to understand if there is a significant difference between observed and expected frequencies of some experiment.
Where f0 are observed frequencies, fe are expected frequencies.
For example, consider the coin tossed 100 times with the result of 65 tails and 35 heads. We want to test hypothesis if the coin is symmetric. If the coin is symmetric, then expected frequencies will be 50 and 50.
So,
X 2Pearson = (Oi-Ei) 2/Ei = (65-50) 2/50 + (35-50) 2/50 = 2*225/50 = 9.
The resulting value should be compared with ...
Every day, homeschooling continues gaining popularity as compared to state schooling. The statistics show that the growth rate ranges between seven and 15 percent annually. There are close to two million learners under this learning process in their homes. It is observed that homeschooled kids perform better in the standardized tests and are welcomes in colleges and universities. As adults, they have reputations for self-directed learners as well as reliable employees (Hughs, 2014). Close to a decade ago, the perception of homeschooling was fought by many policy makers with the question of its impact on developing reliable students. In ...

Following the American Psychological Association’s Guidelines
- After reading both sides of the argument presented in the text, I believe that universities are undergoing de-professionalization, to a certain extent. In an effort to reform the education system for the better, many states have essentially lowered their standards of education. This demeans the education given to students and asks less of teachers. Indiana, for example, passed REPA, and REPA2, allowing anybody with a Bachelors and a 3.0 grade point average to be awarded and “adjunct” teaching certificate. The reform also allowed any teacher to add certifications their resume. For example, a physical education teacher could become ...

In this paper, we take a critical look of some investigative materials on why women are making such decisions that may be considered ridiculous. ...
Since ancient times, the elusive concept of wisdom has figured prominently in philosophical and religious texts. The question remains compelling: What is wisdom, and how does it play out in individual lives? Most psychologists agree that if you define wisdom as maintaining positive well-being and kindness in the face of challenges, it is one of the most important qualities one can possess to age successfully — and to face physical decline and death.
Vivian Clayton, a geriatric neuropsychologist in Orinda, Calif., developed a definition of wisdom in the 1970s, when she was a graduate student, that has served as a ...

Do you believe she provided enough wait time for students?
Yes, I believe the teacher provided enough wait time for the students. Sufficient wait time could in fact encourage the students to express their views during different stages of the learning process.
How do you personally react to wait time, either when you were in school or in the workplace?
When a question is directed at me, I personally take some time to think about the matter and would respond in the most appropriate manner. That is, I am a person who utilizes the wait time to think about the issue or question being asked. So I like teachers who give sufficient wait time for the students. According to Davis (2013, p. 72) “appropriate wait-time ...
In “Techno-Savvy or Techno-Oriented: Who are the Net Generation?”, author Barbara Combes examines the way in which the latest advances in computer technology is changing the way in which educators teach and students learn. Summarizing research and popular literature about the way the “Net Generation” (i.e. young adults who are incredibly tech- and web-savvy) absorbs information, Combes suggests directions for future research and offers a plan for libraries to become leaders in directing this new generation to greater learning. Responding to this article, I found it incredibly informative and even-handed in the way it treated the Net Generation; the ...
MOOCs are online courses, whose aim is to offer unlimited and open access through the web. They help in building an interactive environment which builds a community for students, teaching assistants as well as professors. In this essay we will discuss the significant impact of Karl Theodor Wilhelm Weierstrass on mathematics.
Karl Theodor Wilhelm Weierstrass was born October 31, 1815 in the small German town Ostenfeld, in Westphalia. His father, Wilhelm Weierstrass, was an officer, the secretary of the mayor. In those days it was a very prestigious position.
Charles was 11 years old when his mother died, Theodore Fonderforst. In his family, he was a senior, still had a brother, Peter, and two sisters, Clara and Eliza. Wilhelm Weierstrass was an educated man. It is known that in his youth he worked as a teacher, but as the salary of a teacher in Germany was very low, he decided ...
Poverty is an ill that affects each and every society. The ill effects of poverty on life are vast; poverty prevents people from enjoying good standards of living, it prevents children from getting quality education, and most worryingly of all, it makes people look down on one another. In essence, poverty should never exist. Inequality is a given, and as such, poverty is here to stay. The damaging effects of poverty though can be subdued with the help of technology. Not only does technology help in the spread of knowledge, but it also helps nations build their infrastructure, find ...

This form, which has been filled by an observer, shows that the students in the class are ready to work in groups, give active response in class and also take notes, which shows that ...
The best way, it seems to learn another language, which in my case is English, is by the constant exposure of that language. Every day there must be a portion of time set aside in order to better learn a language, and a person who want to learn should expose themselves to many cases where English is to be learned. This essay explains through research the motivations for learning English as a foreign language, common learning styles, and different approaches that a learner can employ to learn and learning styles out there.
People learn languages in different ways. Some ...

Question 1
As a result of the technological innovations, the use of technology has to be recognized and extensively used as part of the curriculum. As examined in Educating the Net Generation, the 21st century students are so progressive and privy with the latest technological developments. Thus, it is upon the curriculum developers to heavily incorporate technology as part of the curriculum. While doing this, deliberate efforts should be taken to train the tutors on their use. Therefore, it implies that each organization should heavily invest in technology and make it as part of the school system.

The cognitive development theory looks at development as a series of progressive changes in which a person uses their own intellect to continuously progress through stages. The nature of these stages is that each of them is more complex than the other. Piaget and Vygotsky were very influential in the psychology field in relation to the cognitive development theory. This paper describes the importance of their theories of cognitive development and outlines their influence on the current teaching methods.
Vygotsky and Piaget are regarded as constructivists. This was directed to the learners in the current schools that they need ...

The development of English as a first or second language comprises four strategic domains. These include listening, reading, speaking and writing. An English language learner can either attend classes to learn the language from a teacher or tutor or may simply learn through association with frequent English as the way children learn language from their parents and peers. In the class contexts, learning of English required skills from the tutor as well as other learning materials like audio-visuals that are meant to reinforce written or spoken words from the teacher. The learning of English focuses on a few critical ...
