This paper will analyse the a key political speech given by US president John F Kennedy in West Berlin June 26th 1963 commonly referred to as the “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, literally translating as “I am a Berliner” although perhaps more amusingly making reference to a local food “I am a do-nut.” (Bruner 319-328) The historical context of the speech may be seen as an important factor in considering the importance of the speech as much as the words and language of the piece itself. To this extent, the speech was given in the capital of Germany a ...

In Andrew Keen's essay "Douse the Online Flamers," the author laments the presence of cyberbullying and online 'flaming,' or the open and aggressive insulting of others on the Internet. In essence, the advent of the Internet has created a huge public forum where people can anonymously say incredibly hurtful things and harass people, even to the point of suicide. Keen's article approaches the subject from the perspective of potential litigation against cyberbullying and trolling, stating that the US Supreme Court may find it of great importance to reinterpret how anonymous speech ...

Currently, one of the most significant controversies in American politics has to do with the discussion of the 2013 budget. The conservative party, the Republicans, wants to cut spending and, where possible, cut taxes, which they say will boost the economy. They also want to modify benefit programs such as Medicare and Social Security, because without changes, they will bankrupt the government within a matter of decades. The liberal party, the Democrats, wants to raise taxes to narrow the government debt while making more limited spending changes, and have not yet addressed the benefit programs. The Republican budget leader ...
This is a case of cerebrovascular accident in evolution. It means that the damage to the cerebrum is still in progress and is not completed. The rationale for the use of glucocorticoids is that glucocorticoids have a direct effect on the blood vessels and the heart. These effects influence vascular function, atherogenesis and vascular remodeling which follows intravascular injury or ischemia.
Based on the fact that Robert was not given tissue plasminogen activator, it points to the fact that the CVA is likely to be the hemorrhagic type as opposed to ischemic CVA in which tissue plasminogen activator is ...
Speaking is an activity that is controlled by the left hemisphere of a person’s brain, where it is made of two major components. In the third frontal convolution, behind the motor cortex is the Broca area which is believed to be the area where expressive speech is formulated. However, part of good speaking is also listening, and it is the Wernicke region, above the posterior temporal lobe which is believed to be where we comprehend language. These two areas surround the Sylvian fissure1.
Studies as to how a brain forms speech continue to develop. It is understood that ...

A political speech relates to matters concerning governance, as opposed to individual or organization affairs. Political speeches provide insight into the political picture of the speaker. A speech code refers to a regulation or rule that restricts or limits speech beyond certain legal level and, therefore, limits the freedom of speech. Speech codes are common in work places, universities and other private organizations. Usually, the main purpose of the speech codes is to suppress forms of social discourse or hate speech that is perceived to be inappropriate for the implementers. The issue of speech codes in universities has sparked opposition from the students. This sheds light on how and how his background was important in order to prepare him as a leader of the Civil Rights Movement.
Martin Luther King Jr. was not born with that name, but was born January ...
In December 7th, 1941There were attacks on the Pearl Harbor base in Hawai’i by the Japanese. At the time of the attacks, the numbers of soldiers in the base were minimal since some had closed whereas others were on weekend leaves. The incoming Japanese planes that attacked the naval base were detected, but were mistaken to a group of American planes that were expected to arrive in the naval base from the mainland. These attacks were survived and took about two hours, and the reason that made them have a big impact is the fact that it had ...
President John F Kennedy is widely regarded as one of the most popular American President's of all time. The United States underwent major changes under JFK's regime, with the most important changes being related to Civil Rights, and also tackled some tough global issues such as the Cuban missile crisis with aplomb. However, before all this, JKF actually had quite a hard time during the Presidential elections. In fact, the victory that JFK experienced was one of the closest ever in the US presidential race. Yet, the President was determined to start off on a high note, and win ...
Generally, the free speech zones are the places that are set aside in college or university campus or in the public places to use the right of speech in the United States. The term “free speech zone” insinuates that the free speech is not allowed everywhere. However, this idea must be to limit the unruly crowd to maintain peace and discipline. It is the responsibility of the educational institutions to provide safe and secure atmosphere to the students for learning and help them to excel. The free speech zones are not created to limit the freedom of speech, but ...

Winston Churchill’s speeches are remembered not only for their oratory superiority but also for their effectiveness and capacity to elicit responses from the public and the general political space. An example of this is the famous Iron Curtain speech made on March 5th 1946, where he changed democratic Western perceptions of the Communist East regions of the Soviet Union. Churchill’s speech, entitled “The Sinews of Peace” was a unifying call for the British to be strategic and in their post war actions. During the Pope visit in Nicaragua, the podium was full as the people eagerly waited for the Pope to deliver his liberation speech. In a surprise, most of the reform minded Catholics in Nicaragua were hopeful that the pope was destined to utter words of peace to the people. The people had expectations that the Pope will convey messages that will support the poor in favour of the filthy millionaires. In his speech, he stated, “You peasants live in unjust and inhuman conditions but don't be tempted to rise in arms against your oppressors. “Contrary to their expectations, the ...

Crafting a Speech Analyzing Sarah Palin’s Speech Accepting Her Nomination for Vice President of the United States
Introduction
Respected Sir, and fellow students, it is a pleasure to stand before you and elucidate, what I infer, the speech, delivered by Gov. Sarah Palin, at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul on September 3, 2008, was of blatant aggression on the opposition Democrats formed around rhetorical situations. Given the privilege of becoming the vice president of the country, Sarah Palin was only too happy to accept her nomination, and the speech she gave on that day was marred by controversies and savage mockery of the opposition. The occasion was to commemorate her surprise choice and acceptance ...

Ethos
Ethos refers to the credibility of the person presenting his speech or an appeal he makes to authority. In other words, it is how well an orator convinces his audience, so that it can be confident in him as qualified to speak on a particular subject. Moreover, it can also arise due to one having vested interests in a matter, in ...
In the Symposium, Apollodorus makes a relation to an unidentified companion story, which he had learned about a dinner party, or a symposium from Aristodemus. The symposium is given to honor the tragedian Agathon. Here, Socrates is lost in thought on the neighboring balcony, and arrives at the party late. Eryximachus accepts Phaedrus suggestion after they have finished eating that, every person should make a speech praising the god of love. Children have a complex yet fascinating language development pattern. As they grow up it becomes very difficult to understand children’s speech, as it may sound like one thing yet mean something else. The way children speak is affected most by the way they think. At a young age, it is not possible for a child to have the mind-set of an adult, making self-expression difficult for them. Altogether, it is important not to ignore children as they develop their speech during early childhood.
Throughout the growth of a child up to adulthood, a child undergoes ...

A discussion with reference to Gordon Gekko’s “Greed Is Good” speech from the 1987 hollywood flick-Wall Street
The oft misquoted, misunderstood and misjudged “GreedIs Good” speech by Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas in the 1987 hollywood movie, Wall Street, produced a gargantuan stir in “that malfunctioning corporation called the USA.” The speech came in at a time when America was traversing a road of sweeping socio-economic changes, trade scandals and prosecutions were daily scoops for news and the real world stock market suffered a setback. As such it was impossible to ignore the repercussions of the powerfully-writ dialogue stuffed into the mouth of Gekko (with its obvious pun), the half-brother of a Machiavelli perhaps. The ...

Since the mid of the 20th century the first amendment right of the students has been in controversy. In its decision the Supreme Court stated the students not to “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate” on the Tinker vs. des Moines case.
Right to free speech plays an important role to achieve healthy democracy in a free society. New communication sources including internet have expanded the ability to express oneself and share information and participate in social and democratic political processes.

My speech was about spear fishing. I talked about how one gets ready for the activity, stalks the prey and in the end gets to achieve the objective of the activity by spearing the fish. I could feel that I had achieved the objective of the whole speech since after giving the speech my fellow students clapped. Also, in the course of the speech, the silence in the classroom meant that the students were attentive which makes me conclude that they received the message.
The introduction cannot be said to have attracted the attention of the students. There should ...
Arguably, the best approach to getting treatment for Schizophrenia is getting the correct diagnosis. Schizophrenia is usually characterized by profound disruption both in the emotional and cognition facets, thus affecting the most fundamental personal attributes such as thought, perception, language and a sense of self. In America, effective diagnosis of Schizophrenia is made possible through the use of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, which is popularly abbreviated as DSM-V. This tool serves as the universal authority for the various psychiatric diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
In most cases, the individual diagnosed with Schizophrenia will experience ...
This is a case of Juli and Steve and their positions on the issue whether the release or publication of certain works of art, which in their case was the Laramie Project should be regulated in an event that not doing so creates the possibility of igniting public unrest or compromising the community of individuals who are not involved in the dispute. In the case, Steve argues that the public release of the Laramie Project should be cancelled and be ultimately banned from the campus. Juli, on the other hand argues that there is nothing wrong with publicly releasing ...

In times of civil strife, leaders of nations, of religious groups, or military forces have addressed the public in such authoritative way through their powerful speeches. In some remarkable cases, their words served as catalysts to action and a result of it; reform (Crespo 2007). My research will be based on specific rhetoric devices used in wartime speeches, and one speech from the Pope.
This research topic is very significant in that it tries to bring out clearly the role of the war speeches; how they have been used in the past and the resultant reactions that followed. In ...
In Act IV, Scene III, on October 25, 1415, at the Battle of Agincourt, the English were enormously outnumbered by the French. King Henry V delivered a motivating and inspiring speech to his frightened soldiers. The war happened on October 25 that was a St. Crispin’s Day and King Henry’s speech became famous St. Crispin’s speech. His speech contrasts powerfully in its dignity and virility with the bragging frivolousness of the French nobility.
King Henry says that they should be happy that there are going to be honored for their participation in the battle. He further ...

In his relationship with Socrates, has Alcibiades been made into a true lover; that is, is Alcibiades now a philosopher. To answer this, love must be defined philosophically or otherwise.
Socrates, in his speech, says that love is a feeling for some object. Love is a desire for an object. Eros is the Greek god of love. The Roman god of love is called Cupid. In his speech, Cupid says that love is a feeling for beautiful things. Socrates philosophically says ‘love’ is not good or beautiful’. He goes on and says that if it were the contrary, then ...
Non-verbal communication is usually used in order to express power as well as status. It is also used in order to convey a wide variety of emotions and feelings such as love, anger, and compassion. It is an on-going process in the human person and is part of every human endeavor. True enough, nonverbal communication enhances verbal communication in any case of human interaction. Through gestures of the hands and the head, a single statement become the most striking in any speech or confrontation. One of the best examples of how nonverbal communication is best demonstrated is in the ...
The First Amendment is perhaps the most well-known among Americans. It guarantees us all the right to free speech. It also guarantees that nobody, state official or otherwise, will stand in the way of our freedom of press, as stated by Thomas J. Curry in his book “The First Freedoms: Church and State in America and the Passage of the First Amendment” (2005). It can be argued that Nancy Jamison was exercising both of her rights protected under the First Amendment of the United States on the night that she posted these terrorist threats (2005). Free speech codes and harassment policies happen to be adopted by many Oughout. Colleges and universities so that they can stop racist, sexist, or other kinds of offensive language. The rationale is that racial along with other offensive slurs are chaotic verbal assaults that restrict students’ rights. Many city liberties activists, students, higher education faculty, and administrators fear that such codes violate Primary Amendment rights. Who decides what exactly offensive language is and what exactly is not? Should “hate speech”possibly be protected, or can it result in violence? Are there limits to free speech only greater good and ...
These two speeches are the most memorable speeches given. They might seem different but as I read through the two speeches they sounded similar, despite the fact that they were given two thousand years apart. The similarities are featured in length, content and in the situations whereby the two speeches are given. In Pericles' speech appreciation of the ancestors, the people who died for the country, the survivors, and their families served as the purpose for his speech. The speech also reminded the readers and the listeners of the benefits of having democracy as well as the goodness of ...
In George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, Eliza Doolittle is initially nothing but a poor girl selling flowers on the street. Due to her incidental presence of Higgins and his bravado in discussing his abilities with Colonel Pickering, Eliza is swept up into a world that she would have been unable to touch without the help of Henry Higgins. Eliza speaks with a Cockney accent, making her incapable of breaking into the more refined world that she dreams of; Higgins takes her in and transforms her into a completely different woman. The transformation is that Eliza goes through not on ...
When I was in high school, I attended a conference on environmental sustainability with renowned activists and speakers from all over the world. I was already secretly hoping to meet her because I am a big fan of her work and inspirational message of peace and what I received on that fateful day, was unimaginably better than what I had ever dreamed of.

JFK’s inauguration address was a real turning point in American politics. The speech itself covered all the major points that were the root off American problems. The election period had been very divisive with the results coming close but the winner had been identified. He started by thanking all those involved in the fight before him to make America a better place. He reminded the people about the problems that they had faced as a country ...
Tuesday November 4, of 2008 will remain monumental in American history because an African American president got elected to serve the people of United States. What made Barrack Obama manage to conquer the traditional barriers of ethnicity and race to become crucial figure in the history of United States? The constitution remains emphatic on the need of freedom of speech in a democratic environment. Citizens need the right information to enable them perform their civic duty. The freedom of expression promotes individual self-realization and remains essential in the search for truth (Laraia, 2009). People’s freedom of speech enables them to participate in shaping the public affairs of a country. Failure to provide this right of freedom of speech a free society can fall in a retrogressive regime. Curtailing the freedom of speech can negate them the opportunity of making their contribution in the society.

It is approximated that more than 200000 people gathered at Washington on March 28 1963 at the Lincoln memorial. By the use of the artificial proofs such as ethos, Lagos and pathos, he was in a position to tell people whose eyes were close by the color of the skin that all people are equal and color of the skin should not divide people (Bade 612). United States of America gained their independence from Great Britain in June 4 1776. This was a great accomplishment for the people of United States because now they could rule themselves. For most people they were happy but for the black people who were still slaves did not see this independence. This was still being experienced 75 years later after they had gained independence. Fredrick Douglass who was an abolitionist movement leader claimed this injustice on a speech he made at Rochester, New York in 1852 a day, which was after the Independence Day (Asante). In the speech, he ...
Dr. Martin Luther King's speech, I Have a Dream
Introduction;
The famous speech of Martin Luther King is widely known for its rhetorical appeals exploited by the speaker to grasp the attention of the audience and provoking their thoughts and feelings. In the referred speech Martin Luther King invested huge effort to stir the awakening urge under the political and social influence of the time in the year1963. Martine Luther King writes and spoke the speech himself. Thus, the focus on logos, pathos and ethos with the use of symbolism, imagery and diction was duly justified to cast a hold on the audience. In the context of referred ...
Rhetoric includes factors that must be taken into account at the moment of writing. While many people think of “rhetorical” as when someone “asked a question that they already knew the answer to”, that is just the common, vulgar usage of the word, which I shared. Nevertheless, this word implies many other aspects of effective writing that should be taken into account.
While reading through the Online Writing Lab—Purdue for Rhetorical Situations, I modified several things I thought I already knew or understood. For example, the site says that “rhetoric” can be used to imply a persuasive speech, ...
While searching for the proper presentation, I came across a TED video of social psychologist Emily Balcetis. There were a great variety of presentations to analyze, but I came up with the idea that it would be interesting to investigate the speech of a person who explores the perception of others. Her works focus mainly on the image that our mind creates according to our personal biases.
She sounds absolutely confident and presents herself as a truly knowledgeable and devoted specialist. Moreover, she gives her own examples which help to create personal atmosphere. With regards to this, she managed ...
The following delivery analysis is of a TED talk presented by Brene Brown, a researcher whose main focus has been on shame and vulnerability. In the talk she discusses the findings of the qualitative research she carried out on vulnerability. She found that although vulnerability is uncomfortable, it is absolutely necessary for human connection, creativity, joy, happiness, innovative thinking etc. and that the research participants she defined as ‘wholehearted,’ were far more accepting of feeling vulnerable than other participants who struggled with vulnerability. Her talk was engaging for a number of reasons which I will now discuss.

Successful of a presentation is determined not only by its contents, but the way it is delivered, merely effective body language, facial expression and eye contact, as well as vocal strategies. The Victory Speech by Barack Obama that he made after winning elections in 2008 represents a fusion of all elements, crucial for the delivery of a quality speech. While giving the speech, Barack Obama maintains a balanced position. Sometimes allowing himself leaning forward while speaking, he avoids leaning on one foot that may be perceived as the lack of confidence or doubts. From the tempo of speaking and ...
The article chosen to analyze this assignment, “Castro Thanks U.S. in Speech But Reaffirms Communism” relates greatly to the course concepts in media and politics. This topic is newsworthy as it covers a topic that is of interest to the American public. The New York Times has been labeled as a “liberal” newspaper.
President Raul Castro is portrayed in the article as the victor in this highly contentious event. The political power narrative is framed by Castro who included favored guests, such as Elian Gonzalez (at the center of the battle of Cuban exiles and Havana in 2000) as ...
The study of Jonestown is one that is scary as well as intriguing. Learning about the movement of such a group of people to follow one person is extremely interesting and it is one that is never truly observed on this scale very often. The psychological idea that will take most of my time is that of conformity, this idea is one that is obvious when discussing ...
The Indian economy is an upcoming superpower like China. Mr Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India has made headlines when his party came to power in 2014. He has a very strong and positive persona and is determined to transform India, but starting from the grass root level. It is amazing to see a tea vendor rise to the position of a PM. President’s Obama speech on immigration was translated on November 20th, 2014 and addressed extremely important issues which concern almost every single person living in America today. Even though the first part of it is rather informative, tells about immigration, provides statistics and announces actions which will be taken by the President in the nearest future, the whole speech is rather persuasive because it makes the audience change their attitude towards people from other countries who live in America and look at immigration problems through another perspective.
In the introductory part of his speech the speaker provides ...
