This paper discusses sustainable development and the leadership characteristics that initiate organizational change towards sustainability. In the increasingly competitive environment, leaders find themselves under constant challenges, which require them to embrace change and to steer their organization towards sustainability. Sustainable development, however, does not only pertain to economic sustainability, but it also pertains to environmental and social sustainability.
