The hydrographic printing technology was developed in 1988. The investigator Motoyasu Nakanishi of company Kabushiki Kaisha Cubic Engineering registered the first patent for the hydrographic printing technology on 26 July 1992. The principle is almost the same of the current hydrographic printing technologies where a transcription film is inserted in a painting apparatus with water.
