The medical field to me represents an interesting field with immense possibilities. My journey in the medical field started out with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Milkins University followed by another degree in clinical laboratory science from the Illinois University. I had made the decision to be part of the medical world after my mother had a brush with cancer. Prior to that, I had weighed several options but none had particularly impressed me. Watching her recover fully and later on become cancer free was proof to me that being involved in the diagnosis, care and ...
Arguably, an exam is one of the official methods of testing student knowledge in all levels of education. Exams are subjected to students in almost all learning institutions. In 21st century, a lot has been debated on whether to or not final exams should be abolished, especially, on science related subjects such as biology, mathematics, and chemistry. There is no specific age that an individual should be subjected to exams. The educational system that determines when and how students in colleges should undertake their final exams. Many people, argue that final exams in biology, and other science related subjects ...
The field of pharmacy has always held a tremendous interest for me - ever since I was a boy, I have wanted to understand how the world works. The way things react to each other on a chemical level helps me to comprehend a sense of order to our world - a step-by-step process by which something changes into something else. The organic chemistry that goes into understanding these reactions, and pharmacy in general, is a particular passion of mine; this had led to an ardent fascination with the field.
This need for order stems from a desire to ...
Eco-Friendly Funerals
The bodies of the dead have been a matter of great concern especially to the loved ones of the deceased. Various propositions have always been made on how they wanted the body of their own to be handled. For instance, cremating the dead was objected especially in the conservative London, Grainger, H. J. (2000). However with time, legislations changed and the practice was allowed. This paper tries to look keenly into the views people have on cremation, the benefits of cremating the dead and how it is ecologically relevant to do so. The paper will pay attention to the ...

Scientists are concerned about the lack of student interest in studying science (Dillon & Manning, n.d.). Researchers have conducted various studies. They have determined that the influence of teachers, curriculum, and classroom environment has an impact on student interest. This literature review describes current research regarding this dilemma as well as some recommendations. According to authors Dillon and Manning, “science teachers are made, not born”. This is very important to consider as it speaks loudly about a teacher wanting to teach science. It is better for students to learn science from a teacher that wants to share their scientific knowledge ( ...

Lloyd Augustus Hall
Lloyd Augustus Hall’s contribution to science largely involves food preservation. Lloyd’s interest in food chemistry, a new area of chemistry, started while working at Boher Chemical Laboratory. Before his inventions, table salt (sodium chloride) was used as the major food preservative especially in preserving meat (Wilson and Jane, 34). However, table salt was not effective enough, as meat could only be preserved in a short period using this technique. Following various experiments, Lloyd came up with “flash-drying” technique as an alternative to table salt preservation. The technique involved a combination of sodium nitrate crystals and nitrite and ...

In chemistry, a hypothesis is a means to help explain phenomena. It is an idea that might explain why something happens. In contrast a theory in chemistry refers to testing this hypothesis by trying to determine what is true about a phenomena.
A hypothesis is used to test why something happens. This is used to help develop the theory. The theory is based upon the truths discovered by testing the hypothesis. A law includes the entire collection of observations. Laws explain things but does not describe them differentiating them from a theory (Lastrucci, 1963) . The scientific process is a ...

Funding is requested from the National Science Foundation in order to carry out proposed research based on the calorimetric study of enthalpy, Gibb’s energy, and entropy. The technique of calorimetric experimentation has changed a great deal from the early 1960s when studies of the heat ionization of water were conducted. The first adiabatic bomb calorimeters were very simple and controlling the difference in temperature between the inside and outside jackets was hard to control. The difference in temperature needs to be as small as possible, close to an infinitesimal amount. Technology has developed to sophisticated levels. The automatic ...

Lehn defines the concept of Supramolecular chemistry as 'chemistry beyond the molecule'; chemistry of the intermolecular bond that includes the functions and structures of the entities resulting from the bonding between multiple chemical species. According to Vogtle and Alfter (1991), supramolecular chemistry, contrary to molecular chemistry, is based on intermolecular bonding or interactions, while the later is predominantly based on the covalent bonding of atoms. In other words, supramolecular chemistry deals with the bonding between two or more building blocks that are bound together by means of intermolecular bonds.
The aforesaid concept bears on the organized entities of higher ...

Similarities and differences
In any literacy work, the main theme is depicted and illustrated using different formats. This makes the work have its uniqueness though the main theme may be common for more than one work. This results in production of literacy works with a common theme but using different formats to illustrate and elaborate on the main theme.
The main artistic works that have common themes but use different formats are books (written literature) and artistic works (creations of the mind). The most affected type of work is artistic genre since many artists discuss the main theme as a unit then ...
Ludwig Boltzmann was an Australian physicist who is well known in the world of physics and Chemistry. The main fields that make him a well known person in the field of science are the molecular motion of particles in which he proposes that molecules must have thermal energy on top of other forms of energy for them to move (Klein 45). He contributed immensely in statistical mechanical physics and statistical thermodynamics. By evaluating amount of energy in molecular bodies, his influence stretched further to cover molecular chemistry.
One of the most remembered and significant theory is the H-Theorem. The ...

Lab Memo: Cyclic Voltammetry: Identification and Quantification of Unknown Concentrations of Substituted Benzoquinones
1.Introduction
Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) measures the redox behavior of electeroactive species and is useful for a whole spectrum of molecules in inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, electrochemisty as well as organic chemistry. A voltammogram is the readout of the energy scan which can be used to determine unknown concentrations. Voltammogram wave shape is very different than in spectrometry and chromatography. The wave is triangular in shape because the y-axis describes the shift in the potential which is the voltage of a working electrode versus a reference electrode. The x axis describes duration in seconds. (Kissinger and Heineman).
Two samples each with an unknown concentration of benzoquinones were analyzed with the instrument, BASi Epsilon-EC.

The Origins of Life
The origin of life has long been a subject of much scientific debate and scientists have put forward various theories to explain how life may have begun. One such theory was advanced by Miller Urey in 1953(Moritz, 2010). Urey carried out an experiment which he assumed simulated the conditions of Primitive Earth. This experiment was referred to as ‘pre-biotic soup’ which showed how organic molecules like amino acids were formed from mixtures of water, ammonia, hydrogen, and ammonia. This experiment is controversial in that scientists are skeptical about the presence of a ...

Acids trace a history back to the years of when tasting was the main mode of classification of substances. This traces back to the ancient Greeks whereby a name of sour-tasting substances was developed from Latin. Among the very many substances tested, a very sour tasting substance, which was vinegar, was found to portray certain characteristics (Porter, 1992.). This later develop to the name ‘acid’ which up to date is used to mean substances which have sour tastes and are slippery and corrosive. In some simple experiments, the 17th century scientists were able to learn that acids were corrosive ...

The fugacity is a term that has Latin origins, referring to pace and speed. Early work somewhere in the 20th century, on fugacity, demonstrated that chemical equilibrium is established by the free energies of reacting material. Since then, various approaches and concepts on fugacity have been provided. The gas fugacity of noble gasses has been studied, and models have been proposed for calculating the solubility of noble gasses. The development of various models has considered pressure effects, differential equilibrium between components and temperature changes.
The paper discusses the evolution of various multimedia fugacity models and the fugacity of pure ...
