In modern democracies in general and American in particular, the key principles to constitutional democracy is the separation of powers and rule of law. These principles are damaged by the administrative state where much power is vested in unelected government officials or bureaucrats. In a political system with separation of powers like that of the United States of America, the constitution divides policy making powers among the three branches of government. The Congress is charged with the responsibility of making laws, the executive branch is charged with the implementation of the laws formulated by Congress while the judiciary interprets ...

- Definition of Narrative and Expository Texts
Narrative texts refer to materials that are structured according to events. They include shared accounts of personal experiences, traditional and familiar stories and all literary material that is a product of imagination. Soap manufacturers develop various products that include conventional soaps and antibacterial soaps to address today’s microbial threats. Antibacterial soaps are developed based on conventional ones with antibacterial agents added to the product. These antibacterial agents must have the ability to kill germs, but should not give adverse effects to human’s skin and general physiology. Scientific approach to investigate the effectiveness of antibacterial soaps begins with the hypothesis that antibacterial soap reduces more bacterial contamination compared to the conventional (non-antibacterial) soap. The two hypotheses are:
- There will be decrease in bacterial growth variables (types, numbers of colonies, ...
Handwashing is the gold standard for the prevention of health care-associated infections (HCAI), yet the rate of handwashing compliance is universally low. This study reviews the role of hands in the transmission of HCAI, factors affecting compliance, and suggested strategies to promote compliance. One of the first things they teach you in nursing school is that hand hygiene is critical to healthcare; yet health care-associated infections (HCAI) continue to represent a significant safety hazard to patients. The World Health Organization estimates that each year hundreds of millions of patients all over the world develop infections associated with health care. The two movies, Pushing Hands (1992) by Ang Lee and What Time is It There? (2001) by Tsai Ming-Liang, are all Taiwanese and share several differences as well as similarities. From the settings to characters through the storylines and themes, the two films depict certain similarities that most movie enthusiasts and analysts will notice, such as the theme of alienation of individuals who find themselves in a culture where things are starkly different than they expected, yet they must live there. This essay compares and analyses the two aforementioned movies, highlighting the differences and similarities between them.

It was just another cold day in the frozen land. But my instincts were signalling that it was not a day to travel. The weather seemed gloomy and perilous. Though I was warm in my hirsute, yet I wanted to sit by some fire. It was better to nestle in under a mound of snow and safeguard my balminess. To walk miles on such a day did not seem fascinating at all. Seemed foolish in fact! But something quelled my intuition and drove me to walk along this human- a man with queer actions. I felt a bout of nebulous disquiet which probed me to walk along the heels of this well-covered man- so many thick and dark casings sheathed his legs, hands and ears- his entire body. What was he doing outside? Why does not he stay at where his folks do and cuddle next to a fire? Instead he is trotting around, behaving patiently yet strangely and spitting in the air. I didn’t know exactly what he was up to but one thing was for sure- he would make fire soon. Humans do that so easily. But even with that calibre, it was not a day to travel for him or me. Still, driven by the vague apprehension and expecting to sit by fire, I followed this man. ...

Modern fiction has often been marked by experts as being defined by the rise of first-person narration. First-person narration offers a variety of advantages to the author, but in addition to having advantages, it also offers unique pitfalls for writers who are utilizing it when they are creating fiction. The problem with the first-person narrative is that the “I”-- the speaker, the narrator of the piece-- must be compelling and believable, even if he or she is unreliable as a narrator. Everyone has an internal monologue, and if the narrator’s internal monologue strays too far from what ...

It is not only the dress we wear or the words we say, but also the hidden messages sent by our body unconsciously and this is by far the most important of all impressions. The moment we meet someone, we subconsciously judge him or her on the basis of these overlooked movements of the body and this impression sticks even though the entire process takes ...

Are "Tasers" a legitimate law enforcement tool or are they too dangerous to the health of suspects and should be taken out of the hands of officers?
Ever since the 1990s, when Tasers were introduced into the law enforcement scene, there has been great controversy, as to whether they comprise a valuable law enforcement tool in the hands of police officers, as well as corrections officers, or if there has been police misconduct and abuse. With a sudden burst in the sales of Tasers, with numbers of law enforcement agencies using Tasers having risen from 1,700 to 8, ...
Sensation and perception actually play two fundamental complimentary roles, which are indeed different in how people interpret the world. Sensation refers to how people sense the environment through smell, sound, sight, taste and touch which are the five senses. This noble information is mainly sent to the brain in raw form and then perception takes over. Perception is defined as the way people interpret these sensations and thus making sense of the surrounding. It is worth noting that sensation refers to something that people can feel whereas perception refers to something that can be seen. Sensation is mainly a ...
In most of the countries, firearms distribution is regulated by laws which are incorporated in the laws of the land. For example, in the United States, this is done by a number of state laws and federal laws. Several acts have been enacted all aiming at controlling possession, use and situations where a firearm can be carried openly in the public. So as to understand some of these laws quite well, let us consider some laws in the US constitution which regulate gun use and in turn how this affects the crime rates associated with use of firearms or ...

There are a number of important benefits that can be gleaned for humanity as a whole if production processes could be moved to space. This is a holistic investigation of the different benefits of moving manufacturing processes to space, and of the current processes that are capable of being carried out in space or in orbit. Full-scale production of space vehicles is the final end goal of the process, but a focus on small-scale production via 3-D printing technologies is also examined over the course of the study. Should the US have stricter gun control laws?
Guns have a special place in American history and Americans have always had a love for firearms. This love affair for guns started in the seventeenth century, when the early settlers were required to carry gun to protect themselves from Indian attacks. The ‘Kentucky rifle’ of the 1700s, Samuel Colt of the nineteenth century and WWII veterans bringing home their enemy guns as trophies are all symbols of the proud American past. However, the spate of recent mass shootings has called for a stricter regulation of gun ownership and distribution. ...

Principles of Goffman’s Analysis: As Viewed in the Advertisements in Vogue October 2014
Introduction
Erving Goffman, in his Gender Advertisement, stresses the importance of taking commercial pictures seriously. The main intention of the advertisements is to lure viewers into buying the product depicted in the advertisement. The power of advertisements is so strong that it can immensely influence the viewers, both consciously and unconsciously. However, the problem is that an advertisement is not necessarily the true representations of reality. Not only commercial advertisers, but also governments and nonprofit organizations make use of advertisements in order to deliver their ideas or messages. The advertisements intentionally and unintentionally raise and exploit the “social situations”. ...

Twenty volunteers, who intentionally contaminated their hands by contacting door handles and railings in public places, were assigned randomly to three treatments; handwashing, using water, handwashing with a plain non-antibacterial soap and no handwashing. Fecal bacterial species were detected in 44% of the samples after no handwashing. Handwashing with and water only decreased the bacterial contamination to 23 %, while handwashing with soap and water decreased the bacterial presence to 8% (p< 0.001) and the effective results were irrespective ...

In the immediate aftermath of the Civil War, the Federal government enacted the 13th Amendment freeing the slaves and the 14th Amendment, which granted African Americans citizenship. In 1870, the 15th Amendment was passed, which gave black males the right to vote. In a few short years after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, African-American enfranchisement was the law of the land. And yet, in a vast region that had been conquered in a long and bloody war, social change was superficial. In practical terms, there was little difference between slavery and the world in which former slaves lived. Segregation ...
